Light surface dirt. There are some light scuffs/ abrasions to the cab behind the driver and to the right of the engine’s steps. These lamps were simple yet effective devices consisting of a container for holding oil and a wick that would burn, providing illumination in the darkness. As technology and metallurgy advanced during the Bronze and Iron Ages, oil lamps became more sophisticated in terms of design and materials. In the Bronze Age, oil lamps were often made of ceramic and had a rudimentary shape, with an oil reservoir and a spout or nozzle to hold the wick. These lamps were used in homes and places of worship, and some featured simple decorative designs. In the Iron Age, oil lamps saw technological and stylistic advancements. They became more elaborate, with a wider variety of designs and materials, such as bronze. These lamps often featured decorative shapes and handles for easier transportation. In addition to their practical function, some Iron Age oil lamps also held symbolic and ritual significance in religious and funerary contexts.

WAF 691).Literatur: Vgl. Horst Ludwig, C.F. M. Müller, in: Bruckmanns Lexikon der Münchner Kunst (im 19. Jahrhundert), Bd. 3, S. 189 f.Vgl. (14101017) (11)Carl Friedrich Moritz Müller, also known as “Feuermüller”,1807 Dresden – 1865 MunichREMEMBER THE POOROil on canvas. Relined.139 x 119 cm.Signed, with place name Munich and dated 1860 lower left. The painter’s nickname “Feuermüller” [Fire Müller] arose due to the atmospheric effects employed by him to immerse his nocturnal genre paintings in candlelight. This type of depiction was by no means a novelty in painting. Painters such as Georges de la Tour and the group of “candlelight” painters, and then Gottfried von Schalcken, had already refined these effects in the 17th century. In the 19th century, the Belgian artist Pieter van Schendel (1806-1870), a contemporary of Müller, also devoted himself to nocturnal group portraits by candlelight. From then on, the depictions were no longer just to show off sophisticated lighting effects, but more importantly a manifestation and documentation of popular life, i.e. genre paintings. It is evident in his works, that Müller displays empathy for a society heavily affected by the politics and circumstances of the time. The plaque on a collection box on the left warns in the semi-darkness: “Remember the poor”. A reminder, that the artist’s age was plagued by great social upheaval. During the 19th century, the psychological aspect of genre painting became the true meaning of this genre. This is the artist’s true accomplishment and the painting’s importance rather than just the realistic and astonishingly naturalistic nature of the lighting effects. Provenance:In 1834, King Louis I of Bavaria acquired a “Scene from the Tyrolean War of 1809” (Munich, Neue Pinakothek, inv. no. WAF 691).Literature: cf. Horst Ludwig, C.F. M. JACOB KASSAY (AMERICAN B. 1984) UNTITLED Acrylic on canvas Signed and dated 11 to wooden support (verso) 153 x 213cm (60 x 83¾ in.)Provenance: Maruani Mercier, Knokke Acquired from the above in 2013 This important artist can be seen at the Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia, Italy Born in New York and based in New York City, artist-critic Jacob Kassay takes a cerebral, minimalist approach to creation. He is represented by 303 Gallery and has exhibited at ICA London, MCA Chicago, and the MFA Boston. Known for his innovative treatment of flat surfaces, Kassay has turned to mirror-like acrylic and canvas scraps in the service of his post-conceptual practice. In its total abstraction, the present work calls attention to the blurred lines between art and the everyday. Were it not for the frame, what would separate Kassay's canvas from the wall behind? Yet, Untitled is not so much the 'zero point' of painting in the mould of Kazimir Malevich's Black Square as a restrained example of decorative art. In constant dialogue with its environment, Untitled catches the light of a room and alters it, adding new dimensions to an interior space. Condition Report: The surface is white and matte. The application of paint is visible in raking light which does produce a slight sheen but the overall effect is matte. There are no obvious condition issues. Update 19/09/24: Under certain lighting a very small imperfection is present in the lower right quadrant. There is no evidence of a protrusion, recto or dent to the reverse. Please note this is only visible under specific lighting and from certain angles. It is not always visible. Updated 25/09/24: Due to changing light throughout the exhibition the mark is not visible in most lighting and difficult to find the majority of the time.  Condition Report Disclaimer

It combines the performance-focused Aero spec with an intriguing TTiD 1.9-litre twin-turbo diesel engine (which has the famous Saab turbo boost gauge on the dash), plus an automatic transmission. It is resplendent in bright red, with smartly-finished 18-inch alloy wheels featuring premium Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres. As a later 2008 facelift example, it also has LED signature lighting at the front and eye-catching ‘ice block’ tail lamps. The vendor describes it as a very well looked after and maintained example, with engine, transmission and electrics in ‘excellent’ condition, plus bodywork, paintwork and interior in ‘good’ condition. It has a full MOT until September 2025, while the odometer reads 68,000 miles. ‘T99HJS’ boasts a full Saab specialist service history, with the vendor pointing out that the cambelt was replaced at 41,000 miles. The second-generation model was introduced in 2003, available in saloon, estate and convertible styles. Using much more advanced GM technology, it featured premium details to help it compete with rivals from Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Convertible versions were particularly popular. The car ran right through to 2012, when Saab sadly fell into bankruptcy, although it was briefly revived by an independent company called NEVS between 2013 and 2014.
