Original vintage travel advertsing poster for TWA / Trans World Airlines featuring an illustrated menu for Da Meo Patacca restaurant including drawings of grapes, wine, TWA planes and a man on horseback. Patterned red border on a yelow background. Da Meo Patacca, a 19th-century taverna located in the Trastevere area in the centre of Roma, the Italian capital city. In July 1959 Remington Olmsted, American actor and Roman of adoption, conceived and founded the restaurant Da Meo Patacca in Rome. He recreated the atmosphere of a Roman tavern of the nineteenth century within the splendid setting of Trastevere, historical and architectural gem of medieval Rome. The dishes, the location, the furnishings: everything in the restaurant Da Meo Patacca expresses history, the rich and fascinating history of the city, but above all the history of the Roman people and their ancient traditions; the lighting is still entrusted to the gas lights, to the oil pans, to candles and soft lights, the waiters are in costumes of the time, professional musicians go around the tables every evening entertaining the customers with Roman songs, jokes and folk songs. Good condition, tears, creasing, small paper losses at margins. Country of issue: Italy, designer: D'Evelmia & D'Amico, size (cm): 100x43, year of printing: 1959

T R WILLIAMS, The Cock and Fox,stereo daguerreotype, c.1851-1855, listed by the (revived) London Stereoscopic Company as First Series 03, original tape, 17.2cm x 8.3cm. Note: The LSC website comments ‘The "Cock and Fox" scene is one of TRW's truly unforgettable images…………the composition, the lighting, the clarity, and the perfection of the process, all combine to make a three-dimensional space full of sharply defined life and tension, all the more remarkable considering that the two principal characters in the scene are, of necessity, (since the technology to photograph live animals in such a tableau did not exist at that time), stuffed.’ This image appears identical to that on the LSC website (but better preserved), the camera remaining in the same position.

VINTAGE BOWN 47cc MOPED, c. 1959, engine no. 2714217 in blue and whiteAuctioneer's Note: A marque active in early 1920s, Bown was revived as the name for a revised version of the Abedale autocycle in 1950. Like most of its independent contemporaries, Wales-based Bown relied on Villiers engines and soon added a lightweight motorcycle powered by the 98cc 1F unit to its range, followed by a 122cc model with the 10D engine. Production of Villiers-engined machines appears to have ceased in the mid-1950s, where after Bown relied on Austrian Fichtel & Sachs power units. A CRYSTAL INSPIRED LOUNGE CHAIR BY IAN DOUGLAS-JONES (ATELIER I-N-D-J, ESTABLISHED 2009)Black finished steel, black calf leather, rubber bungs and brass bolts Edition 1 of 2112cm high, 59cm wide, 95cm deep Catalogue Note: Inspired by the facets of a crystal, this lounge chair's aesthetic is also borne out of process - creating a three dimensional object from flat yet folded 2-D material. The lounge chair was fabricated from laser cut from a flat sheet of stainless steel, the triangulated facets were folded and then welded - the language in part a by-product of process - the facets are tessellated and elements removed (to reduce weight) whilst lugs that connect facet to facet add to the complex geometry. A secondary layer provides the seating support, 3mm thick stainless steel gives under weight to provide material suppleness whilst 10mm rubber bungs sandwiched between the structural layer and support layer provide additional layer of damping. The upper most layer is crafted from padded Black Calf leather with an oversize stitching detail, whilst the pads themselves are fixed in place with oversize brass bolts adding to the notion of the over-designed opulent object.Triangulated legs stab the ground fixing the lounger in an energetic stance. Shortly after graduating from the Royal College of Art London with a Master's Degree in Architecture, Ian Douglas-Jones founded his Shanghai-based design practice Atelier I-N-D-J in 2009. Since then, the multidisciplinary firm has taken on a vast range of projects from restaurants, shops and office spaces to lighting fixtures, furniture and art installations for clients across China and around the world.Condition Report: A few traces of dirt and a few scuffs otherwise in fine condition Condition Report Disclaimer

Ed Vebell (American, 1921 - 2018) "Dewey At Manilla/Spanish-American War" Signed lower right. Original Acrylic painting on Masonite. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This artwork was originally published on the Fleetwood Commemorative Cover for Epic Events in American History series issued in 1985. Prompted by the Cuban rebellion against Spanish rule and Spain's brutal response to the insurgents, the U.S. battleship Maine was sent to Cuba to protect American lives and interests in January 1898. At 9:40 p.m. on February 15, 1898, two powerful explosions tore apart the battleship, lighting up the night sky of Havana's harbor and killing 260 of its crew. Separate investigations made by Spanish and American authorities differed as to what caused the disaster. Today it is generally accepted that the destruction resulted from an internal explosion. Americans were convinced that the blast was caused by a deliberately-set submarine mine, which had then set off the Maine's forward magazines. Spurred on by the popular slogan, "Remember the Maine! To hell with Spain!" the nation surged toward war. On April 24, Spain declared war on the U.S. and America reciprocated the next day. Admiral George Dewey, on his flagship Olympia, led the American fleet into Manila Harbor on the evening of April 30. The following morning, Dewey attacked, his ships sweeping back and forth across the bay until it had decimated the Spanish fleet. Later in the war, on July 1, 1898, Theodore Roosevelt led his Rough Riders in a fierce charge up Cuba's San Juan Hill to become one of the war's heroes. Hostilities ended on August 12 as Spain realized the hopelessness of continuing the fight. A peace treaty was signed in Paris on December 10 and approved by the U.S. Senate on February 6, 1899, thus ending the Spanish-American War. Image Size: 20 x 21 in. Overall Size: 26.5 x 26.5 in. Unframed. (B06113)
