A George III full tester bed, with pleated canopy and complete with 5' divan interior. Width 60 ins, length 81 ins, height 82 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This bed has come to us from a local estate. There are 400 lots in this sale from the one property and the bed is in extremely good condition. The bed posts are quite clearly George III and probably pre 1800. The canopy is made from pine and is relatively modern. It has been manufactured to fit the bed and posts. It matches the lining of the drapes and pelmet. The rear posts are also Georgian. The backboard between the posts is modern. The headboard is modern. The side and front and back rails are period. The bed base sits on the side stretchers and there are no planks running from left to right. The piece is structurally very sound. The only sections of the bed that can really be seen are the bed posts. The upholstery is generally in very good condition as are all of the drapes. The top cream bed cover is beginning to perish on the silk side. We cannot see any woodworm. The carving on the bed posts is of good quality. The brass covers over the bolt holes are later. The mattress has a topper. When this is removed the mattress itself is in first class condition with no staining at all. The mattress is by Elf Beds “Natural Choice 1500” (equivalent to 1500 pocketed springs) the divan base beneath the bed is older but serviceable. Knowing where the bed is from I would have no hesitation in using the mattress. The height from the floor to the top of the mattress is 32.5 ins (83 cm)
