A mahogany Gothic revival four poster bed, circa 1835, the pointed arched foot board bearing the crest of the Pughs of Llanerchydol Hall, Welshpool, the stepped cornice on reeded lappeted turned end columns, on Gothic arch moulded square supports with stepped square collars to the base, united by a pointed arch footboard with central crest within a moulded border, the padded pointed arch headboard between plain uprights united by an arched pierced frieze over a plain slatted base, 184cm wide (72.5inches), 254cm high (100 inches), 209cm long (82.5cm inches) Note: David Pugh of Llanerchydol Hall is believed to have commissioned John Adey Repton in 1820 to gentrify the house. Samuel Lewis recorded the house as a modern castellated mansion beautifully situated on the acclivity of a hill. The Pugh family lived at Llanerchydol from 1776 when David Pugh Senior a local man who made his fortune selling tea in London purchased the site and built a new house to replace the Tudor house that burnt down. A succession of the Pughs lived at the hall until 1912 when the estate was split up, the house was purchased by the Verdon`s who lived at the Hall until 1985 when the property was sold in a state of decay; however recent owners have now reinstated the Hall to its former Gothic revival grandeur.

A Victorian Four-Poster Super King Size Bed, late 19th century, the pierced brass headboard with scrolling foliate plume above turned uprights, the conforming footboard between four cylindrical corner posts with leaf cast bulbous mounts, takes two single mattresses *without floral canopy - amended 25.03.10
A North Italian walnut and ivory Lit en Bateau, circa 1810, the scroll panelled ends inlaid with Romanesque scenes to a border of dancing Putto and mother of pearl trailing flowers and carved swan neck sides and Northern Italian lions and Egyptian swans, 214cm (84in) long, 138cm (54in) wide, 127cm (50in) high Provenance: Mrs Hunter, the Palazzo Barbaro, Venice, and by descent. In the late eighteenth century John Sargent Curtis (a relative of the well-known painter John Singer Sargent) bought one of the two adjoining Barbaro palaces on the Grand Canal in Venice. The Curtis` s restoration of the Palazzo Barbaro provided a haven for an artistic community as vibrant and colourful as the palazzos might have seen in the time of the Italian Renaissance. Curtis and his wife played host to famous and glamorous writers, artists and musicians such as Henry James, Whistler and Claude Monet. In the early nineteenth century this North Italian sleigh bed was sold by John Curtis to John Singer Sargent`s friend, the acclaimed English hostess, Mrs. Hunter, in whose house the Novelist Edith Wharton and French actress Rejane argued over who would sleep in the room in which this bed was kept. Set in the headboard and the foot of the bed are highly decorative scenes of cupids and mythological classical gods. Northern Italian lions interlaced with vines proudly circle dancing lovers and sleeping damsels. Two highly ornamental Egyptian swans stretch their necks down the bed posts as if to guard those sleeping in the bed
An Impressive Inlaid Oak Full Tester Bed incorporating 17th Century elements. The tester composed of square panels in a moulded framework surrounding a central cushion front panel enriched with carving and bordering a moulded lozenge. The canopy frieze rails decorated with S-scrolls of foliate strap-work and supported on turned bulbous columns above heavy square block foot posts and a panelled headboard. The three arcaded upper panels of the headboard ornamented with marquetry urns cascading flowers over a candle shelf with gadrooned rail and four plain base panels below. The side & foot rails drilled and channelled for rope webbing. 80 ins (203.5 cms) high, 59 ins (150 cms) wide, 86 ms (220 cms) in length.
An oak, cream and yellow painted four post bed, in George III style, 19th century and later elements, the floral embroidered textile frieze above square and turned pillars, the front posts painted with winding floral branches, arched and button upholstered headboard, 237cm high, 187cm wide, 232cm long. A Handsome Ebonised Regency Four Poster Bed. The headboard having a moulded centre rail raised up above an open panel of reeded trellis work with turned roundel`s to the centre points, flanked by down-swept fanned corner panels above a grid of three pierced & reeded horizontal bars divided into thirds up reeded uprights. The footboard composed of a similar grid of bars. The tapering reeded posts have wrythen knops bearing canopy rails slotting over pegs to the top. 58 ins (147 cms) wide, 79 ins (201 cms) in length.
