A 17th century oak bedstead, the headboard with a moulded dentil cornice above a pair of panels carved with leaf scrolls and with initials 'AW' and 'MW', possibly commemorating a marriage, above four conforming panels, the footboard with a lunette frieze and quadruple panels, with a later base, West Country, 181cm high, 208.5cm long, 147.8cm wide. Provenance: Purchased from B. I. Howard Antiques, Sampford Brett, Somerset, 5th May 1992, for £2,200. 'A Lifetime of Collecting'-The property of a gentleman.
Empress Josephine's BedA very fine and unusual French carved rosewood Bedstead, the shaped headboard with cartouche and leaf scroll cresting flanked with two spiral posts with conforming baluster shaped capital and gilt cast metal finial, fronted with a conforming footboard both with padded panels and joined with shaped sides, each with shell and scroll angles, 4'6" (137cms). 17th century style four poster bed (6') with turned and carved front pillars and heavily carved headboard depicting carved figure heads with nine panel roof.Condition report: This bed was fully disassembled for removal from the vendor`s property, it has been dry assembled with temporary dowels for viewing purposes in the saleroom.All it will need is the old glue removing from the joints, re-gluing together and new oak dowels making which can be stained and polished to blend in. The bed is structurally sound, the joints are excellent, minor cosmetic wear consisitent with use but overall an outstanding and magnificent four poster bed. Viewing is highly recommended. No mattress but a clean box base. We are unable to do condition reports on our Interiors Sale

Rare late 17th/early 18th Century English buff slipware rocking cradle or crib, in the manner of John Meir, the arched canopy and the long sides of the rectangular body both modelled with mushroom-shaped lugs or knops, the headboard and depleted tailboard decorated in treacle-brown slip with stylised leaves and dots, the long sides with stylised tulip heads, the canopy arch initialled E.G., 23cm long x 17cm high Condition: Canopy rim has some minor flake losses. Further minor flaking to knops/lugs of canopy arch. Old dark flake losses to headboard edge of canopy. Firing crack to one corner where canopy meets body, arched end of tailboard missing with loss to one corner of long side. One mushroom knop/lug missing to one long side. Depletions to tips of rocker. Old crack to left hand side and lower section of tailboard. Further marks and imperfections commensurate with age - overall a documentary piece in unrestored but defective condition and sold as seen
