A MAHOGANY AND UPHOLSTERED FOUR POST BED CIRCA 1780 AND LATER246cm high, 168cm wide, 216cm long overallCondition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and useOld splits and cracks, some chips and losses,Please note this has been assembled for the photograph and view at Donnington, however Dreweatts make no comments or guarantees as to the overall stability of the bed when built and suggest this may require some attention and stabilising for installation in a domestic settingAs catalogued this incorporates some period and later elements, the front posts appear to be period but have probably been made taller - the 'spire's to the tops are probably a later element, the rear posts also have spliced additions. The headboard is modern - this has a fire label to the rear, the visible fabric canopy element is also modern and probably dates from the same time as the headboardThere are pairs of old screw holes to the rear uprights, these posts and the rails are not designed to be seen and should be covered by hangings, drapes, or bed clothes. The hangings and drapes are present (as per the catalogue image) but have not been dressed for the view - these appear to be of no-great age either and in fair condition. Again probably as old as the canopy and headboard.
