Tudor Bed Headboard Panel. English, circa 1530 – 1540. Part headboard panel from a Tudor Bed, with twin male portrait faces flanking initials “I C” above three plain panels flanked by original chevron and leaf carved integral rear post, 85cm x 137cm. Provenance: Purchased from James Brett, Elm Hill, Norwich.
* NIGEL GRIFFITHS: A HANDMADE OAK SUPERKING SIZE BED of Jacobean style, the headboard with a shaped and carved toprail with fish flanking a foliate demi-lune, with footboard and rails, 180cm wide. Nigel Griffiths is a family business which has been producing fine handmade oak furniture in Derbyshire since 1946. Nigel's father, Rupert Griffiths, who was inspired by traditional English furniture design and the Arts and Crafts movement sold his furniture through top retail stores, including Harrods, until 1968. Since then it has been sold directly from our workshops.
A mahogany and inlayed four post bed in George III style, incorporating early 20th century elements, the dentil cornice above the upholstered pelmet, drapes and padded headboard, the rear posts fitted for electricity, with quilt and skirt and three upholstered cushions to match, approximately 270cm high, 215cm long, 200cm wide Provenance: Property of a Gentleman of TitleCondition Report: As catalogued, it includes some early 20th century elements - namely the main part of the front upright posts, the remainder of the bed appears to be a last quarter 20th century adaption with the posts bearing marks from inset timber and plugs and the front covers have been re-sited. This appears to all have been carried out professionally.The upholstered elements with marks and stains from use, the headboard with clear marks where the previous owner's heads have rested. would benefit from a clean prior to use. the electric elements are untested and Dreweatts do not guarantee the use of these - theuy should be re wired and plugged by a professional electrician prior to any use. it is sold as a functional piece of bedroom furniture only. An early 20th century bird's-eye maple bedroom suite comprising double bow-fronted wardrobe, a matching dressing table with shaped front above a T-formation of drawers flanked by cupboard doors and a double headboard (3). CONDITION REPORT The finish to the dressing table is worn, mostly at the sides, but there is further cracking visible throughout the top surface. Further scuffs, scrapes and minor losses throughout the three pieces. Wardrobe: height 193cm, width 21cm, depth approx 63cm. Dressing table: height excluding mirror 80cm, height including mirror 150cm, width 136cm, depth 55cm. Headboard: height 86cm, width 139cm.
