AN OAK “YEOMANS” BED with raised headboard with a central turned finial above arch topped panels and square section uprights with conforming finials, with panelled side rails and footboard, basically 17th century, 51” wide.. Provenance: Purchased in 1952 at the Eleven Day Sale of the Contents of Coldbrook Park, Abergavenny by direction of the Trustees of the Late Lady Helen Herbert. The Park first appears as the seat of Sir Richard Herbert in the reign of Henry VI. Colonel Henry Herbert of Coldbrook was rewarded by Cromwell with the contents of Raglan Castle. It is conceivable that this bed was part of those contents. The bed was gifted to the vendor in 1986.
Manner of Sir Robert Lorimer: a Scottish Arts & Crafts single bed, the headboard with turned urn finials, the panel back containing carved strapwork, the footboard with similar strapwork and with column form demi testers surmounted by carved acorn finials, 66 1/2in. (168.5cms), internal width 39in. (99cms), internal length 76in. (193cms).
Headboard THE GRANITE CITY. A painted scroll showing the train name with the initials EIIR and crown atop with thistles either side. This was the Scottish Region’s “Coronation” headboard and was carried between Glasgow and Aberdeen for a few weeks either side of 2nd June 1953 and then went in to store. Painted wooden board 32” x 20” in good condition. This was acquired by the president of the Scottish branch of the Stephenson locomotive society and the bracket originally on the back has been removed to facilitate display.
Headboard THE BRITANNIA PHOENIX. Standard design with rear bracket for mounting on the top centre lamp bracket. A b/w and colour photograph accompany showing 70000 BRITANNIA carrying the headboard on the occasion of the re-naming by Kay Swinger, wife of the Chairman (the late Peter W. Swinger) of the Britannia Locomotive Co. Ltd at Crewe Station on 27th July 1991. The train later departed Crewe for Hereford.
Mettoy Musical Man on the Flying Trapeze - with detailed tinprinted frame, plastic acrobat, performs to the song "Man on the Flying Trapeze", with winder to side, built in the music box, detailed tinprinting, working order although the original rubber band supplied is a little weak through age, includes printed headboard - Good Plus to Excellent, still with a Good illustrated box.
