The camera was used by Mr Somers across his long tenure as a cameraman, one known occasion was for the boxing match between Jackie Brown and Johnny King for the British Bantamweight title, hosted at the Belle Vue in Manchester on the 31st May 1937. In the book 'The Picture House', both Gerald and Cliff Somers are pictured filming the fighters sparring, with Cliff using the same Newman & Sinclair camera for sale in this lot. Another notable highlight of Cliff Somers' career was in 1958, as part of the BBC News crew sent to Coniston Water to film Donald Campbell's fatal attempt to break the world speed record in 'Bluebird', albeit with a different camera.
