On his return he published A Summer Search for Sir John Franklin (1853), was elected FRS (2 June 1853), was awarded the gold medal of the Royal Geographical Society, and the silver medal of the Paris Geographical Society, and was presented with a diamond snuff-box by Napoleon III" (ODNB).

Anni & Bent Knudsen, a silver torque and pendant, the softly shaped and tapering torque with a concave pear shaped disc pendant, marked 'Sterling Denmark, Bent K 925 S, 22' and inscribed 'anni & bent knudsen', pendant 4.5cm drop Other Notes: In 1946, Bent Knudsen (b.1924) started working in Hans Hansen's smithy in Kolding in 1946. He trained as a silversmith at C.M. Cohr in Fredericia where the work was based on craftsmanship. He later went on to establish his own workshop in 1956 where he created jewellery in a simple and clear style, often together with his wife Anni.
Poul Warmind (1884-1930), a Danish silver 'Stingray' bracelet, the angular shaped links with black enamel, stamped to reverse '39 Warmind Sterling Denmark', together with a Finnish silver and smoky quartz bangle, the fixed bangle fitted with a collet mounted smoky quartz approx. 16mm diameter, which forms part of the hook clasp, stamped '925 Sterling Finland', bangle diameter approx. 5.5cm (2)

§ John Miller (British, 1931-2002) Pentle Bay, Tresco signed "John Miller" on the reverse oil on canvas in a silver frame 90 x 84cm (35 x 33in) Provenance: David Messum, 8 Cork Street, London, W1, Autumn Exhibition 1995, No. 29, Pentle Bay, Tresco Remnants of an old sticky label to the frame lower right corner. Overall, in a good condition. Paint layer stable, no obvious scuffs or other imperfections.
A fourteen-piece suite of Arts & Crafts style silver flatware by Omar Ramsden, London 1932, 1933 and 1934 comprising four graduated serving and butter knives (three with steel blades, one with silver blade), one table fork, one dessert fork, two graduated pickle forks, two graduated teaspoons, one serving spoon, one soup spoon, one dessert spoon and one chees slice with steel blade, each piece bearing initials 'DML' (14)

Twelve George V and Edward VIII silver dinner plates by Omar Ramsden, London, 1932, 1933 and 1936, each of plain plannished form with deep central well, and on moulded foot rims (12) 23.50cm (9in) Other Notes: The three years represent slightly different designs amongst the plates, with those three from 1933 being of a heavier gauge and having a larger central well with narrower rim - the three from 1932 and the six from 1936 being rather more similar to one another. The three plates from 1933 are a slightly different pattern, having narrower rims and and wider wells.

Condition appears fine.

A George VI silver model of a bull Elephant by Omar Ramsden, London, 1937, modelled standing, stepping forwards on one front leg, his trunk coiled, engraved OMAR RAMSDEN ME FECIT to underside of one foot, together with a bronze version of the same, also signed to underside of one foot, and two framed series' of pencil studies for the model, one with Omar Ramsden printed crest to top right angle, the group accompanied by a letter of provenance from Ramsden's widow, Annie, written to the vendor's late mother on 31st August 1939, just twenty-two days after his death and the day before the declaration of World War II 7.50 x 11cm (3 x 4in) Provenance: Commissioned by the vendor's grandfather as a gift to his daughter on her 21st birthday, thence by decent Other Notes: Transcript of letter reads: 31st August 1939 My dear Christine, These drawings represent the labour of my dear husband at the instigation of your father for his loved daughter on her 21st birthday. The time, thought and love expended on them will give but a little idea of the interest taken in giving you a perfect model. When you receive this you will be of an age to appreciate all the thought and foresight given by your dear father. This brief note is written under circumstances in which it is difficult to concentrate viz. the death of my partner and the International situation. Yet in case anything happens, I want to send you my good wishes for your happiness in life and to almost envy you in the love bestowed on you by your dear parents.
