1930 Alvis Silver Eagle 6-Light SaloonReg. no. OU 7420Chassis no. 8422Engine no. 8867The Silver Eagle of 1930 followed on from 1927’s 14.75, which had been Alvis’ first foray into the world of the six-cylinder motor car. Following on from the success of the four-cylinder 12/50 was not an easy task, but Alvis managed it – the Silver Eagle engine was extremely smooth and produced good power – 72bhp in 2.2 litre form as in this car – while all components were finished with Alvis’ customary quality and attention to detail. Production continued until 1936 with various revisions to keep up with the rapidly-changing times; a huge variety of body styles graced the Silver Eagle chassis, since Alvis, like most high-quality manufacturers of the time, provided their chassis to coachbuilders for bodies to be built to the customers’ specifications.This 1930 Silver Eagle is a rare six-light saloon, bodied by Carbodies – like Alvis, a Coventry company and a popular supplier of bodies for Alvis cars. This example is in good all-round condition; in the current family ownership since 2007, it was previously restored at an unknown date. In 2011 it was treated to an engine rebuild. It comes with a full history file containing many bills, plus an old-style logbook and a V5c.

External cock, mounted on the right side, so as the piston. Curved, briar-root grip, with silver, monogrammed escutcheon on the back. A long, single-and false-edged bayonet in the lower part of the arm, in one piece with trigger-guard, marked on one side 'ELGIN'S PATENT' and 'MORRILL MOSMAN & BLAIR / AMHERST MASS.' on the opposite. dating: late 17th Century provenance: Ottoman Empire, Slightly curved, double-edged blade, in damask, with central raiser and with four grooves, a flat rectangle at the forte on both sides, with remains of gold decorations. Grip with dark, wooden grip scales, decorated in the central band and with twenty one, silver, engraved flowers. Wooden scabbard, completely covered with silver foil, with fantastic, nielloed, floral decorations and with remains of gilding. Front part with five facets, the central with Arabic inscriptions in bass-relief on a golden ground, inside the two cartouches, divided by a flower. The two lateral facets, apparently smooth, are actually decorated with filigree floral motifs and arabesques, external bands with flowers in bass-relief on a grained ground. Relieved ends, cap with braided bands, decorated with nielloed and engraved pendants, chape with a turban-pommel, decorated en suite and with remains of gilding. Faceted button. Smooth back part, engraved and nielloed with floral motifs and with a stamp (Tughra). Suspension ring. Daggers of this type are rarely found on the international market but it is really difficult to see a specimen with a nice scabbard like this. See similar specimen in 'Die Karlsruher Türkenbeute', Hirmer Verlag München, 1991. On page 202 there is a dagger with a similar blade and grip's shape (no. 148). Other specimens can be found in the Histoisches Museum Dresden, in the Livrustenkammaren in Stockholm, in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna and in many other international museums and private collections.Literature: Stöcklein, 1914, page 139 fig. 32, Petrarch 1952, page 667. length 30.5 cm.
