Within the circlet the Thistle in silver on a domed ground; below the circlet a tri-part scroll inscribed ‘ROYAL SCOTS FUSILIERS’ with ‘1678’ below. Two hooks and two studs to reverse. German Third Reich Government Official’s dagger and knot by Original Eickhorn, Solingen circa 1939-42.A fine rare example with simulated mother of pearl grip and silver plated mounts. Eagle’s head ornamented pommel, crossguard and langet bearing an eagle and swastika facing same way as pommel, the blade etched with maker’s squirrel logo. Housed in its finely pebbled plated scabbard with oakleaf bands supporting both loose suspension rings. Complete with original aluminium wire portepee (knot). Slightly toned externally, blade bright. VGCIntroduced in March 1939; production ceased in mid 1942.

Scottish. 93rd Sutherland Highlanders Crimean War Period attributed Officer’s dirkA fine and scarce attributed example of the 1838-70 pattern. The plain clipped back 10 inch blade is double edged for the lower 5 inches, the upper section with a narrow fuller. The black bogwood grip is of an interlaced design decorated with silver studs (one absent) and surmounted by a plain silver pommel ornamented with a foiled citrine. The silver base of the grip which covers the throat of the scabbard is ornamented with thistles. Black leather covered sheath with applied thistle ornamented silver mounts; the middle two mount houses the matching knife and fork (both attached by chains and engraved “EHDM”; the top mount bearing “93” within a thistle wreath. Reverse of centre mount engraved “EHD Macpherson 93rd Highrs”. Some minor staining to blade, spring clip to fork AF, possibly replacement chape, minor service wear otherwise generally VGCEwen Henry Davidson Macpherson of Cluny born 1836, Ensign 93rd 3rd November 1854, Lieutenant 9th February 1855, Captain 12th May 1859, Bt-Major 5th July 1872, Major 29th October 1873, Lt.Colonel 1st January 1879 Bt-Colonel 1st January 1883, half-pay 1st January 1885. JP and DL for Inverness-shire. Died in Cheltenham 1900. Saw action in the Crimea shortly after joining 93rd and again during the Indian Mutiny taking part in the Relief of Lucknow and numerous battles; ADC to Governor of Bengal etc.

The clipped back 11 inch blade is double edged for the lower 4 inches, the upper section with a wide fuller and retains faint etching of Crowned VR Cypher and other decoration. The black bogwood grip is of an interlaced design decorated with silver studs and surmounted by a plain silver pommel ornamented with a foiled citrine. The silver base of the grip which covers the throat of the scabbard is inscribed ‘ARGYLL HIGHLANDERS’. Black leather covered sheath with thistle ornamented silver mounts each bearing registration mark indicating 26th March 1864; central mount also inscribed “XCI” and houses the matching side by side knife and fork; the top mount bearing a Crowned saltire with VR between the angles. Some staining to blade and minor service wear otherwise generally VGCTop mount and throat bear scratch initials THB attributed by vendor to Thomas Holme Banks born 1847, Ensign in 91st 8th June 1867, Lieutenant 28th May 1870, Instructor of Musketry 1st January 1873, retired 1st September 1875. Lower mount bears scratched initials TOT attributed by vendor to Arthur Ely Tottenham who possibly purchased the dirk from the above Officer. Tottenham appears as a Sub Lieutenant and Lieutenant 1873, Captain 1st July 1881, Major 11th July 1884, retired 15th April 1896, died in Ireland 20th June 1908 (served with 91st in Zulu War 1879)

Crowned star mounted with oak sprays and Garter, the black velvet centre bearing silver Sphinx on ‘EGYPT’, Castle, Key and motto. Mounted on the base of the wreath, a silver scroll ‘THE ESSEX REGIMENT’. Three loops to reverse. Toned and a little service wear. GC

1914 Falkland Islands Volunteer Corps 1926 Birmingham hallmarked silver award.A fine and scarce heavy silver example by F & S (Firmin & Son). Design follows that of the unit’s cap badge viz. a shield diagonally divided, above, the stern of the ship “Desire”; below, a Sea Lion. Draped with roped scroll ‘DESIRE THE RIGHT’. Stout pin to reverse which bears the legend ‘FALKLAND ISLANDS VOLUNTEER CORPS 1914’. VGC
