Sombre Binding.- Book of Common Prayer (The)..., by Charles Bill..., 1704 bound with Bill's New Testament of 1707 and Brady & Tate's New Version of Psalms with supplement, 1701-08, together 4 works in 1 vol., some browning, first title with contemporary ink signature "Kath: Dormer" at head, with ink inscription of William Ralphs Junior of 1783 and his book-label plus another later inscription, contemporary black morocco sombre binding, elaborately tooled in blind with cottage roof design against a hatched background containing nine squares of narrow rules, flowers & leafy tendrils, with ornamental silver clasps, corner-pieces and centre-piece engraved with initials (tarnished), g.e., a little rubbed, 8vo⁂ Handsome example of a sombre binding but unusually with the addition of silver metalwork.
