dating: First half of the 20th Century provenance: Kingdom of Italy, Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus. Commendatore's plaque. Made of diamond-like silver, the center made of gold and enamels. On the reverse a vertical pin. This lot belonged to Francesco (1891 - 1980), an Italian aviator. He was appointed General of the Royal Air Force. During his career, he held several important posts, including Undersecretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Chief of Staff of the Blue Army. dimensions 7.5 x 7.3 cm.
dating: late 18th Century provenance: Portugal, Pendant with gold and silver cross set with beautiful, carefully-carved red and white imitation gemstones. On a movable agraffe set with diamond-like stones. The corners of the cross with decorations en suite. The back covered with a thin yellow gold plate, finely engraved with floral motifs. Extraordinary Cross of very high quality. As documented in numerous portraits of knights of the order, wearing such jeweled decorations was very popular in Portugal during the 18th century. dimensions 4.5 x 8.8 cm.

dating: Third quarter of the 19th Century provenance: France, Plaque of the Grand Cross of the Order of the Legion of Honour, Second Empire. Silver with chiselled rays, the central medallion with imperial eagle, around it a circular crown with the motto of the order 'HONNEUR ET PATRIE'. The reverse has a plaque with inscription 'OUIZILLE LEMOINE / JOAILLIERS BIJOUTIERS / DE LA LEGION D'HONNEUR / RU DU BAC N° 1 / PARIS'; long brooch and two side staples. According to the owner, this lot comes from the Pes di Villamarina family. Salvatore Pes di Villamarina (1808-1877), son of Emanuele Pes di Villamarina, was an Italian diplomat and politician. In 1853, the Crimean War broke out between Russia and the Ottoman Empire. The following year, France and Great Britain intervened in favour of the Ottoman Empire, extending the conflict. Cavour and Salvatore Villamarina strongly supported the Kingdom of Sardinia's entry into the war against Russia. In Paris, Salvatore Villamarina promoted Piedmontese intervention and successfully negotiated the conditions requested by the Turin government, contributing to the stipulation of the treaty that sanctioned the Anglo-French alliance and the entry of the Kingdom of Sardinia into the war (Turin, 26 January 1855). For his efforts, Salvatore Villamarina was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honour. dimensions 8.7 x 8.4 cm.
