* Ralph Agas/J Maitland, publisher c.1738- "A View of London about the Year 1560"; Published in London, 1738. hand-coloured engraving, 32x48cm: together with three other 19/20th century prints and reproductions, (4) Note: Published as the frontpiece to Maitland`s History of London, engraved bird`s-eye view / plan of Elizabethan London as seen around 1560. The work represents a reduced version of one of the first plans of London, attributed to Ralph Agas, with the city`s major edifices and sites depicted, including The Tower, St. Paul`s, London Bridge and interestingly the Bull and Bear Baiting Rings, Covent Garden and others. The River Thames is filled with various sailing ships and barges. An 85 point legend identifies important points of interest. Enhanced by two armorials (the royal and city crests) and a ribbon style cartouche.
