§ Tully Crook (British, b. 1938) "After Dark" signed lower right "Tully Crook" and numbered 124/200 colour lithograph 60 x 67cm (23 x 26in) Other Notes: Tully Crook was born in 1938 in Hampstead, London. After a career in advertising and marketing, he became a professional artist in 1978. He now concentrates on painting oils and making prints, and in the last few years has been commuting more frequently between his studios in London and New York - where his work has received great acclaim - and his property in the Catskill Mountains on the East Coast of America. § Phyllis Ginger (British, 1907-2005) Street scene signed lower right within the print "Phyllis Ginger" colour lithograph 42 x 68cm (16 x 27in) Other Notes: Phyllis Ginger belonged to a generation of women artists whose work is relatively unknown, even though their contribution to English painting was substantial. Born in New Malden, Surrey, she trained at Richmond School of Art under Stanley Roy Badmin. She aspired to become an illustrator but she was more captivated by the medium of etching and portraiture as a subject. She first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1938. Ginger's skill as a topographical artist led to her involvement in the "Recording Britain" scheme, started in 1939. The V&A Prints and Drawings department holds 19 watercolours belonging to this scheme, her most important commission, completed for the Pilgrim Trust between 1940 and 1942. Condition appears fine.
§ Frank Auerbach (British, b.1931) Reclining Head of Julia signed and dated lower right "Auerbach '07", and numbered 118/150, published by Marlborough Fine Art, London etching printed with tone on Somerset white paper 20 x 24cm (8 x 9in) Provenance: Marlborough Fine Art, London Other Notes: The artist's wife, Julia Auerbach, has been a regular weekly sitter for the artist over a long period. Since her appearance in the first set of etched portrait heads in 1989, she has appeared as a subject in numerous prints. Julia was the main subject of study in Auerbach's etchings in the years 1998-2001, when she was usually drawn in the reclining pose that she adopted to save getting too tired. In some of the prints she is asleep. Condition is fine.
