A series of fifty-one (plus frontispiece) works by Henry-Louis Dupray depicting notable British battles and campaigns with explanatory text by William Maxwell, each plate with tissue guard imprinted with annotated arms and armour details relevant to the associated battle or campaign by Louis Edwards and L. M. Hehner; the battles including: Hastings (1066), death of Richard I (1199), Crecy (1346), Agincourt (1415), Marston Moor (1644), Blenheim (1704), Quebec (1759), Aboukir (1801), Trafalgar (1805), Badajoz (1812), Vittoria (1813), Quatre Bras (1815), Le Haye Sainte (1815), Waterloo (1815), Alma (1854), Inkerman (1954), Balaclava (1854), Sebastopol (1855), Rorke's Drift (1879), Kandahar (1879), Alexandria (1882), Omdurman (1898), Mafeking (1900), Peking siege (1901), with others. 2.4 kg, 44x31cm (17 1/4 x 12 1/4"). Henry-Louis Dupray (1841-1909) was a famous French artist, known for his depictions of battles and military subjects; the prints in this volume, published to celebrate the coronation of Edward VII in 1902, are often to be seen offered individually at prices of up to £75 each. [No Reserve] Fine condition; hinges slightly weak, paper lightly browned, all plates clean. Rare.
