Sixteen early 20th century Egyptian related watercolours, prints, postcards and print photographs to include J Monti; a pair of desert scene watercolours, Mackenzie Donald (active 1919); watercolour, Cairo and a Mosque scene by the same hand, A J Iles; a pair of Egyptian watercolour desert scenes, various black and white and colour postcards, desert scenes, Palmiers, Cairo and indistinctly signed; a small oil, desert scene with camel riders in the foreground, cityscape in the background, various sizes, all framed and glazed (16).
A pine mahogany stained glazed display cabinet with 'Pear's Soap' logo, with three interior shelves, 70 x 44 x 21cm, an Edwardian Neo-Egyptian style mahogany stool with outswept arms, to turned column supports, upholstered in multicoloured Cubist-style fabric and a pair of Art Deco style decorative prints, each 30 x 30cm, framed and glazed (4). CONDITION REPORT: Some age-related wear in the form of surface scratches, rubbing to corners. Old crack to corner of top at back. No obvious damage to Pears logo. No signs of woodworm.
Three Edwardian cookery books from the series by Mrs De Salis, comprising 'Savouries á la Mode', 'Dressed Vegetables á la Mode' and 'Cakes & Confections á la Mode', published by Longmans, Green & Co, London, New York, Bombay and Calcutta, name and script to the front of each book dated March 9th 1914, a small leather bound photograph album containing a quantity of Victorian and Edwardian black and white photographs, mainly of family groups, and a few 19th century small sepia prints and an Edwardian cardboard box containing miniature paper scrolls with various Biblical verses (5).
A large folio of unframed prints, from 18th, 19th and 20th century, mediums to include lithographs, etchings and engravings, to include botanical subjects, maps of the Danube, 18th century architectural copper plate prints, studies of mammals, anthropological items and numerous other subjects, all unframed.
After F Bartolozzi R.A., a set of three oval lithographs of cherubs, each in round gilt frames, all 15 x 12 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The frames are all structurally sound with no significant visible issues. They have all been overpainted at some point and there is evidence of old losses and minor fractures beneath the repainting. The repainting is clearly of some age. The inner egg and dart moulded edge on one frame has losses and old repairs. The other two frames have probably had some repair to the egg and dart moulding in places. The prints themselves are in generally good order. They are all a little discoloured and have minor blemishes but no significant problems.
A folio of unsigned Prints. Lithographs and etchings, principally post 1950, including examples by or after Arthur Byrne, Edwin La Dell. John Davies, Suzanne McVie, Dawn Matthews, Kim Kempshall, Philip Walker and Lorna McView and Carmen Ambrozovich. Subjects include 'Of what can never be' (Carmen Ambrozevich); 'Longton Park (Arthur Byrne); Gordonstone (Edwin La Dell); Regency Lilies (J.Davies); Red Train, Ffestiniog (Philip Walker) and 'Messengers' - into the safety of Darkness' (Carmen Ambrozovich), some signed and numbered, varying sizes. 50.8 x 67.3cm and smaller (approximately 35)
Advertising interest:- a 'Reliance washboard', pine and metal, printed 'Lighten Wash-Day Worries Use The Reliance Wash Board', 60cm x 32cm wide, with a Cerebos salt metal box, 25.5cm high, a glass boot, with 4 applied prints 'Pirmasens/Pfalz', 30.5cm high and a pair of butter pats, all with some damage (5)Wash board - lettering slightly worn on one side (almost missing 'A' and 'S' of wash board). Lettering very worn on the other side.Cerebos salt - scratches and dents consistent with age and use, base around perimeter and bottom edges, inside of lid and inside corner from top to bottom rusty.Boot - prints lacking some of edges and holes and scratches. Lacking much of gold-coloured edging on sole and heel and some chips on paint on the upper edge of bootButter pats - minor chips.
