A Good Collection of 22 Photochrom and Photoglob Zürich Prints, Collection of 22 Photochrom and Photoglob Zürich Prints of Jerusalem, Jaffa, Palestine, Jerico, and the Holy Land, each image with gold lettering to the bottom edge with a reference number with P.Z. (Photoglob Zürich) followed by the title in French, each print mounted 2 to each side of a board from an album, 1 board with an albumen print of an Egyptian Sarcophagus, each print 21.5cm x 15.5cm Photochrom Prints, colloquially known as Aäcs, represent a pioneering ink-based imaging technique by Hans Jakob Schmid (1856-1924) during the 1880s while working with the Swiss company Orell Füssli. This method involved the direct photographic transfer of an original negative onto litho and chromographic printing plates. The prints were initially published under the imprint of Photochrom Zürich, later evolving into Photoglob Zürich. Notably, other firms such as the Detroit Photographic Company (later Detroit Publishing Company) in the United States and the Photochrom Company in London, England, obtained licenses for this innovative process starting in the mid-1890s. It's importatn to distinguish this photochrom process from the French color technique referred to as "photochrome." Characteristics of photochrom prints are gold-lettered captions along one edge and an assigned inventory number. Those marked with the initials "P.Z." denote prints produced at the Photochrom and Photoglob Zürich. Despite their striking resemblance to color photographs at first glance, a closer inspection with a magnifying glass reveals the intricate composition of small dots comprising the ink-based photomechanical image. This photomechanical process enabled the mass production of vibrant color prints. Notably, each color in the final print necessitated a separate asphalt-coated lithographic stone, typically involving a minimum of six stones and often exceeding ten. Additionally, monochromatic prints were also part of the repertoire.

However, Sultan Ismail distinguished himself by delving into the lives of ordinary rural dwellers, particularly those in Kuala Ibai, Pasar Tepoh, Chendering, Rusila, and Pantai Batu Buruk. His favored subjects were the riverine settlements, and in the 1970s, he streamlined his photographic expeditions by employing a speedboat, pausing only to immortalize captivating moments along the way. Raja Ihsan attested to Sultan Ismail's unique observational prowess and insatiable curiosity, coupled with a refreshing compositional sense. During this era, Tom Harrison and H. Spender, in their Mass Observation research, highlighted the importance of shedding preconceptions and habitual frames of reference for photographers, a principle exemplified by Sultan Ismail's approach. Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah, the fourth King of Malaysia (1965-1970) and the 14th Sultan of Terengganu (1946-1979), received his inaugural camera, likely a Kodak Brownie, at the age of 16 in 1923. He earned a place in Photographer Webster's Timeline History 1880-1989, signifying his enduring impact. His dedication to the craft earned him an associate status with Britain's Royal Photographic Society in 1957, and in 1966, he won the prestigious Excellence Federation Internationale d'Art Photographique, headquartered in Switzerland.
