ANDERSON, Domenico (1854-1939, photographer). 72 albumen prints of Italian subjects, principally Roman buildings, monuments, sculptures and paintings including the Via Appia, the Forum, the Colosseum, the Pantheon, St Peter's (exterior and interior), the Campidoglio, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain and the Piazza del Popolo, but also including views of Pompeii, Sorrento and Positano, each photograph approximately 200 x 260mm., [c. 1894], mounted in a contemporary half-roan album, titled "Italy 1894" in gilt on the upper cover, gilt edges (extremities rubbed).
BINDINGS - Mandell CREIGHTON (1843-1901). Queen Elizabeth. London: Boussod, Valadon & Co., 1896. 4to (319 x 245mm). Half title, coloured lithographed frontispiece of Queen Elizabeth I heightened in gold, title printed in red and black, monochrome plates and illustrations. FINELY BOUND in contemporary green half crushed morocco gilt by Bickers & Son, Royal coat-of-arms stamped in gilt on the upper cover, spine gilt with raised bands, top edges gilt, others uncut (extremities lightly rubbed). FIRST EDITION. With 7 books of uniform size including Richard R. Holmes's Queen Victoria (London, 1897), John Skelton's Charles I (London, 1898) and an album of modern reproduction orchid prints, all FINELY BOUND in full or half morocco. (8)

Kuhn and others, some indistinctly blind-stamped, including views of Sienna, Perugia, Florence, monuments, sculpture, including Michelangelo's 'David', paintings and altar-pieces, various sizes, but the largest 250 x 190mm., [c. 1880], mounted in a contemporary half-roan album, gilt edges (extremities rubbed).
A COLLECTION OF FOUR TUNBRIDGE OR BRIGHTON WARE MINIATURE SEWING BOXES, CIRCA 1820-1865 all rectangular with canted sides and swing handle, the smallest penwork decorated with foliage to the lid and geometric borders, one painted with flowers to the lid, another applied with a printed view of the Royal Pavillion on a green and black striated ground, the last applied with a printed view of the ~New Grand Hotel and Promenade~ (according to label to interior) lengths 9cm to 11cm excluding handles Brighton~s popularity as a resort led to a flourishing trade in mementos. Boxes made in sycamore or birch, penwork decorated and often embellished with prints of local views were produced in the Regency period both locally and in Tunbridge Wells and other towns in the South East. Later decades saw Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge specialise in the characteristic mosaic inlays for which they are better known today; transfer-printed souvenirs becoming a speciality of Mauchline in Ayrshire.
