Raised on a trestle stand with four square tapered legs. Fully adjustable music desk. The satinwood keywell cross-banded with mahogany and line inlaid. The cross-banded name batten with two line inlaid panels flanking a central boxwood plaque inscribed: Burkat Shudi et Johannes Broadwood Patent No 1137, Londini Fecerunt 1790 Great Pulteney Street Golden Square. The five octave keyboards FF-f3 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals with moulded boxwood fronts. Registration: 3 x 8ft, 1 x 4ft, lute and harp. Two pedals operate the machine and the venetian swell. One brass-knobbed hand stop on the left of the keyboard, and a further five through the nameboard, labelled: Lute >; 4' >; Buff Pull; 8' >; 8' Serial number 1137 Length 247cm, width 97cm, case height including lid 37cm. An anonymous Clavecin Royal, Germany, circa 1785 The oak case raised on four square tapered legs. The later oak cross-banded lid with an inner painting depicting Glenarm Castle. The plain oak nameboard bearing a later paper label inscribed: Johann Gottlob, Wagner. In Dresden. The five octave keyboard FF-f3 with ebony naturals with arcaded fronts and ivory capped accidentals. Stossmechanik action with under-dampers. At the bass end of the keywell a curved brass lever controlling the dampers and a stop-knob, once probably operating a missing harp-stop. Single ebonised bridge. Two ' Kirckman' style roses surface mounted on the soundboard. Width 174cm, depth 56cm, case height including lid 26cm. Single strung. One hand-stop to the right of the keyboard, one knee lever, a hand-stop in the nameboard operating a moderator and a second, now void hand-stop aperture in the nameboard. A VERY RARE EARLY 19th CENTURY PROTOTYPE FRENCH SKELETON MYSTERY CLOCK with skeletonised porcelain Roman dial with gilt hands and centre seconds fronting a mystery movement with verge escapement and silk suspension having a spring driven movement concealed in the onyx base which drives a large wheel with cups on its rim to carry the bone balls, another wheel around the escape wheel drives the Archimedes endless screw lifting the balls up to the top prior to being fed onto the wheel, the white onyx base with ormolu mount depicting a classical Greek lady with harp, the clock stands on an ebonised wooden base under glass dome. Clock measures 42cm high
Saint Ursula and her Virgins: An Early 18th Century Fan, with pierced ivory sticks, the guards intricately carved in the Chinese export style, the gorge carved and pierced in a more regular fashion. The velum leaf, mounted à l'anglaise, depicts a laden rowing boat taking to the sea, overflowing with ladies, one with a harp, others appearing to read music, one seated on an elaborately draped throne, cherubs carrying flower garlands flying above, to the right a man swimming towards the boat. To the left a helmeted horseman hurrying to the shore, the top of the leaf further painted with red drapes. This is possibly a depiction of (Saint) Ursula a princess from south-west Britain, daughter of King Dionotus of Dumnonia, heading to sea to join her future husband, the pagan governor Conan Meriadoc of Armorica, along with eleven thousand virginal handmaidens. The verso, painted a deep brown/black, is covered with vibrant painted flowers, to include roses, parrot tulips and convolvulus. Guard length 26.5cmGood colours but rubbed. Some repairs to the leaf folds and one more to do.
Dated 1672 AD. Third bust. Obv: profile bust with CAROLVS II DEI GRATIA legend. Rev: cruciform arms with harp with seven strings and CC monograms in angles with MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX legend with no stop after HIB and date. Edge: with raised DECVS ET TVTAMEN ANNO REGNI VICESIMO QVARTO inscription. S. 3358; ESC 6th 388. 29.86 grams. Good very fine; rich dark tone.
