Following the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922, the regimental Colours were received by HM King George V on 12th June at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle; formal disbandment followed on 31st July, 1922.

Badge. Irish. 88th (Connaught Rangers) Regiment Victorian OR’s glengarry circa 1873-81. A good die-stamped brass example. Crowned shamrock wreath; Harp over “88” to centre. To reverse, original copper loops North and South. VGC (KK 559). Provenance. Ex Hugh King Collection. This is the actual piece photographed as No. 559 in “Head-dress Badges of the British Army”.
Badge. Irish. Roscommon Militia Officer’s waist belt clasp circa 1856-81. A fine and rare silvered interlocking example by J & Co. (Joseph Jennens & Co) bearing match numbers to both halves. Circlet inscribed “Roscommon Regiment”; seeded centre mounted with crowned Maid of Erin Harp. Unusual pattern five shamrock ends. Minor service wear. GC Raised in 1793 at Boyle, became 5th Bn. Stumpff, London No. 44 Great Portland Street, Portland Place, maker to his Majesty the King of Great Britain & C.", the satinwood soundboard decorated in penwork with floral motifs, lyres, birds, urns and cherubs, the gilt foot with hippocampus and anthemion decoration, 67in.
