London Irish Rifle Volunteers Victorian OR's helmet plate. A scarce die-stamped brass example originally blackened . Crowned Maltese cross, lions between the arms, bearing circlet inscribed ‘London Irish Rifle Vols.', crowned Harp to voided centre. Three loops to reverse. Service wear. Formed 28.2.1860 as 28th Middlesex RV, renumber 16th 1880.
5th Royal Irish Lancers, Officer's Shabraque Embroidered Horse, Saddle Cloth Quarter. An example of a Hind Quarter of the Shabraque, with gold bullion embroidery depicting Upon crossed lances a circular strap, "Quis Separabit" and to the centre a crowned Harp and Maid. To the base of the lances title "5 Royal Irish" All is surmounted by a Guelphic Crown. Edged with two rows of gold lace of Regimental pattern. Overall GC small moth nips. Suitable for Framing.
Irish. 88th Connaught Rangers Victorian Officer's shako plate circa 1869-78. A fine and rare example. Rich gilt crowned laurel sprays with circlet "Connaught Rangers" and ornamented with shamrocks; on the black velvet the centre, the Harp over floreated "88", below the circlet an applied silver scroll, "Quis Separabit". Two loops to reverse. VGC (KK 174).
Irish. 88th (Connaught Rangers) Regiment Victorian Officer's shoulder belt plate circa 1831-55 A fine and scarce example. Seeded gilt plate. with burnished edges, mounted with silver star, the principal rays bearing honours. This mounted with gilt crowned shamrock wreath on "Quis Separabit" scroll bearing a pierced gilt circlet inscribed "Connaught Rangers" with seeded gilt "88" to centre. On the bottom ray of the star, a gilt Maid of Erin Harp over gilt Sphinx on "Egypt". Two hooks and two studs to reverse. VGC The Harp and Crown was authorised for wear by 88th on 23rd December 1830. Changed from silver to gilt buttons July 1831, hence new plate adopted.

John Donegan, Dublin, a mid-19th century Irish 18ct gold cased open face pocket watch, No.7499, keywind 3/4 plate English lever movement with fusee and split bi-metallic balance, gold engine turned dial with subsidiary seconds, a Roman chapter and with a central spiral rosette and an outer band of 'bloomed' flowers, three piece hinged case, the back enamelled with a blue harp within a band of green trailing shamrocks on a matt ground, the inside finely engraved with a depiction of St Patrick seated on a rock, a hound by his side and ruins in the distance, hallmarked Dublin 1858, 50mm diameter. Note; John Donegan, 32 Dame Street, Dublin - a top Irish maker, who had two shops in Dublin and is known to have been working before 1839 until at least 1855.
Good 18th century French harp by Holtzman, Paris, with ebonised and gilt chinoiserie decoration, the carved scroll top upon a foliate carved fluted column support and base housing seven pedals, the soundboard delicately decorated after Watteau with a riverside landscape below foliate and musical motifs, 66" high
*De Morgan (Evelyn, 1855-1919). Compositional study for By the Waters of Babylon, black & white chalks on blue-grey paper, showing a frieze of seven figures, one with a harp, in a landscape with trees, image size 21.5 x 40cm (8.5 x 15.75ins), sheet size 28 x 42cm (11 x 16.5ins) A preliminary sketch for 'By the Waters of Babylon', Evelyn de Morgan's large scale oil painting, illustrating the Biblical story of the exile of the Jews in Psalm 137. She finished the work in 1882, and it is now held by the De Morgan Foundation ('Evelyn De Morgan, oil paintings', DMF, 1996, plate 11). This early study is typical of the artist's first loose compositional sketches for a work. It is interesting to see that, although two of the main figures present in the oil painting do not yet take their place, the final composition in outline deviates little from her initial concept. (1)
