An embroidered baby bonnet, 1730s, the linen ground entirely worked in silver threads with raisedwork gold thread lilies, edged in gold bobbin lace CONDITION REPORT: Tarnishing to metal threads over the crown area, rest of the bonnet is generally good. Lacking lining. Much brighter than online images. Ribbon ties are later.
A fine figurative Brussels bobbin lace robings panel, early 18th century, with droschel ground, delicately worked with a king in high periwig and dressed as a warrior, his queen (probably Emperor Charles VI and his bride Elizabeth of Brunswick), love birds, hearts aflame and kneeling blackamoors offering gifts, approx 7 by 103cmProvenance: The Countess of Effingham's collection. A brocaded silk baby bonnet, circa 1750-60, adorned with bands of metal bobbin lace with fontage-like scallop to the front CONDITION REPORT: Metal threads have tarnished, silver threads in the brocade have thinned. Gilt bobbin lace has tarnished as has the metal strip braid that crosses the brocaded silk crown. The silk brocade had lampas weave metal threads and these have slightly eroded. Lined in simple cotton.
An embroidered green satin purse, second half 17th century, worked with floss silk tulips, pansies and other blooms in couched gold thread pots, with remains of gold bobbin lace, 17cm high CONDITION REPORT: Colours are good. Silk lining is gone, most of the sequined decoration has gone; two of the four embroidered panels - the satin is creased from poor storage. The purse would have been edged in metal bobbin lace but a few fragments only remain. Satin is embroidered over vellum which bears printed text. The vellum is stained.
