A Victorian silver easel back perpetual calendar, James Deakin & Sons, Chester, 1899, of shaped rectangular form, heavily embossed with birds, hunting dogs, squirrel, owl and figures amidst foliate scroll decoration, red velvet front, and leather backing, inscribed cartouche, month and numbered cards, 9in. (22.8cm.) high. * Condition: Some staining, polish holes, fading etc, overall good.
An original 1954 signed photograph of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, standing on the balcony at Buckingham Palace with a young Prince Charles and Princess Anne, signatures in black ink to lower margin, 17.5 cm x 9.5 cm in a glazed easel frame. This image was the one used in the 1954 Christmas Cards sent by the Royal couple.Consigned by the family of Robert Smith, who was a Footman at Buckingham Palace before becoming a Steward at Windsor Castle, his career spanning from the late 1930s through to the mid-1970s. He travelled on many overseas tours with the Royal Family, accompanying King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Canada (1939) and South Africa (1947), as well as later tours and engagements with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Domestically, he accompanied the senior Royals on carriages and coaches during state events and official visits. It forms part of an extensive collection of personal Christmas cards and related ephemera being sold in this sale.

Art Deco silver and enamel desk clock by Finnigans, with gilt dial, 8 day movement, with blue and white guilloché enamel front and easel back (London 1921). 9cm square.General overall condition quite good, clock case is dirty, enamelling is uneven and scratched in places but otherwise good, dial is dirty and worn and scratched in places, no other damage or visible repairs to case, movement is fully wound and does not run.
Samuel Finney (1719-1798) watercolour miniature on ivory, Admiral Sir Charles Hardy, wearing a powdered wig and the first undress uniform of a Captain, signed with initials, engraved as titled verso, in gilt glazed frame, 4.3 x 3.8cm, presented in glazed box frame with easel support. Provenance: Sotheby's, Portrait Miniatures, 5/7/84. N.B. By chance a previously unrecorded portrait of Sir Charles Hardy was sold in these rooms earlier this year. Born Charles Le Hardy (1716-1780) in Portsmouth into a notable Jersey family with a strong naval tradition. He unsurprisingly dropped the 'Le' during this period of mostly hostile relations with France, He entered the Royal Navy aged 16 and was made Lieutenant in 1737 and Captain in 1741. In 1755 he was knighted and appointed Governor of New York, this during a period of heightened tensions and rebellion in the colony and Charles didn't relish the task of quelling the spirit of independence, he entreated the government to find him another position at sea. In 1757 he was promoted Rear Admiral of the Blue, promotions continued and he was made Governor of Greenwich Hospital in 1771 and was M.P. for Portsmouth from 1774, after which he returned to Naval command and in 1779 was made Commander-in-Chief of the Channel Fleet, a year later he died.
