A VICTORIAN BURR WALNUT LADIES WRITING/WORK TABLE, the shaped rectangular hinged top enclosing a tooled green leather inset writing surface with easel back flanked by pen rests and inkwell compartments, above a single frieze drawer with original paper lined interior containing reels of thread and green silk covered compartments, on two turned and baluster pedestals with foliate carved dual end supports with ceramic castors and linked by a turned stretcher, width 57.5cm x depth 44cm x height 74cm, with key (condition: missing fabric drawer, some veneer splits and a few repairs)
A VICTORIAN BURR WALNUT PIANO TOP DAVENPORT, fret carved moulding to the pop up top which encloses four pigeon holes and three drawers, the hinged top above slide out tooled green leather easel back writing surface with pen compartment and two fitted inkwells, two drawers above, the base with four drawers and four dummy drawers with turned wooden handles and supported on two foliate carved cabriole legs, all on a shaped plinth base, with flattened bun feet, no castors, width 59cm x depth 75cm x height 96cm, with key (condition: fretwork cresting is loose, the pop up top is sitting higher on the left hand side, as a consequence the drawer at the bottom is catching on the base, some splits in the base, other scratches and wear commensurate with age)
Thomas Anthony Luzny (1924-1997) A large late 19th/early 20th century artists easel, 205cm high used by the artist Tom Luzny. A veteran of the Second world war Luzny was well known in Canada for his comic illustrations on army life. As an artist he also had a more serious side and studied under Frank Brangwyn at the age of 28 in London. When interviewed he expressed a love for the monumental and this is very evident in his large murals for the Cunard liner 'Sylvania' as illustrated. Provenance: By family descent from Luzny to the present owner.
TITANIC INTEREST, a late Victorian silver framed easel back table top mirror, of rectangular form, embossed with foliate design, bevel edge mirror, leather back, maker L.S., Birmingham 1891, mirror approximately 23cm x 14cm, outer frame approximately 29.5cm x 19cm (Provenance: this mirror was reputedly owned by Captain Edward John Smith, Captain of The RMS Titanic, comes with a letter and envelope of provenance from 1922, the letter details that the mirror was at one timed owned by Captain Smith's housekeeper Ethelwynne, who after the Captain's death was allowed to have one item of his personal property as a keepsake and for unpaid wages, she chose the mirror which had been on his dressing table, the letter written by Hilda, (Ethelwynne's sister in law), goes on to say Ethelwynne 'Spooked me when she said that at times could still see Captain Smith's face in it on the anniversary of when the Titanic was sunk', comes with copies of newspaper clippings (2)
