Robinson, Ilkley AN EXTREMELY RARE AND UNUSUAL LATE VICTORIAN/EDWARDIAN "ILKLEY COUCH" having a four-section adjustable sprung frame, inclining (by metal threads and brass wheels with wooden easel supports) from horizontal to a variety of positions, the brass hinge plates stamped "ROBINSON/PATENT/ILKLEY", with carved footboard, the base frame with (depleted) enamel plaque, having leaf-carved sides on four turned legs with castors, 194cm x 55cm x 37cm high, (76.4in x 21.6in x 14.6in) *** The Ilkley Couch was made popular following its use by the future Edward VII during a short illness prior to his Coronation. They were to be found at the White Wells Hydropathic Spa, Ilkley. Robnson's premises are recorded in the 1901 Ilkley Census as Prospect Place, Hangingstone Road (they later moved to Cowpasture Road).
