Of Fred Elwell, Walter Goodin and Kenneth Elwell interest; an oak artists adjustable easel, the rise and fall mechanism adapted, height 168 cm. Provenance; purchased by Malcolm Shields at the Bar House disposal sale in 1958. This easel was used by Fred to teach his pupils, Walter and Kenneth as his Trinity Street, Beverley studio.

Colin Wiggins and Frank Auerbach a collaboration, 'Frank Auerbach in his studio with a portrait of Colin Wiggins' part of a series of prints in which Wiggins invited artists to collaborate with him in making a portrait print of each other on the same plate. Auerbach etched the portrait of Wiggins seen on the easel, signed by Auerbach and monogrammed CW, number 1 from an edition of 5, titled 'The Joker' 29cm x 22cm, framed and glazed. Press clippings verso. Colin Wiggins was head of education at the National Gallery.
A Victorian silver cased fusee pocket watch, the silver assayed London 1876, the dial with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds dial, the key wind movement engraved for "Benjamin King, Glasgow" within a silver mounted and Morocco leather travel case, assayed London 1906, with easel support.
Two silver mounted photograph frames, William Harrison Walter, London 1899, with bevelled glass, overall 25.5 cm x 19.5 cm and Carr's of Sheffield Ltd., Sheffield 1997, with plush back with easel support, overall 23.5 cm x 18.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The older example of the two has a few knocks to the silver but nothing too significant. It is missing its easel back support. The cloth backing has small tears and is discoloured. The modern example is in generally good order throughout.
An Edwardian silver photograph, Spurrier & Co., Birmingham 1905, with Art Nouveau whiplash style decoration, on and oak frame with later easel support, to take picture 12.5 cm x 9 cm and a modern silver photograph frame, Carr's of Sheffield Ltd., Sheffield 1993, embossed with scrolls, on easel support, to take picture 14.5 cm x 9.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: There are small knocks to the edges of the Art Nouveau example but nothing too significant. The interior edge frame picture aperture also has small knocks. The easel support on the reverse is a replacement. This is still rather an attractive frame. The modern silver picture frame appears to be in good order throughout.
