A carved giltwood wall mirror, in George III style, 19th century, surmounted by rocaille, flanked by opposing ho-ho birds, triple mirror plate within an elaborate C-scroll and S-scroll frame, 153cm high, 150cm wide. For mirrors of related design see Thomas Chippendale, The Gentleman and Cabinet Makers Director’, 1762, third edition. Provenance: The White House, Marlborough.
A George III mahogany harewood and gonzalo alves cross banded ‘breakfast’ table, circa 1760, in the manner of Thomas Chippendale, the rectangular top with a central oval reserve decorated with a marquetry flower, quill pen, note paper and counters, above a single frieze drawer with cast gilt brass knob handles, above an concave fronted cupboard with fret pattern brass wirework panels with silk pleats, square section legs with moulded feet enclosing castors, 75cm high, 101.5cm wide extended, 66cm deep. Provenance: The 6th Earl of Craven. The design of this table bears a close resemblance to a pattern illustrated in Thomas Chippendale, Gentleman & Cabinet Makers Director, pl.XXXIII, 1754. An example exists in the Chippendale Collection at Harewood House Two similar examples supplied by Chippendale to The Earl of Dumfries, Dumfries House, 1750’s. BUREAU - Ca 1765-1785, Boston Chippendale Cuban Mahogany Block Front Kneehole Bureau with molded overhanging top, single long drawer over a short scalloped base center drawer, block and shell-carved center hinged door, when open exposes a two drawer shelf fitted scalloped interior. The cupboard door flanked by three drawers at each side, all drawers with original pierced brass Chippendale pulls, molded base raised on carved bracket feet, 31 1/2" tall, 35" x 19 1/4", good condition. Attributed to the Frothingham Shop, Charlestown, MA.
TALL CASE CLOCK - Mahogany Cased Federal Period Tall Clock, circa 1825, of Chippendale-Sheraton transitional design, signed `J.P. Kennard` on the hand painted face, (John Kennard, 1782-1861, Newfields, NH), with brass time and strike works, original weights, pendulum and keys, the case having fretwork crown, brass finials, face flanked by ribbed columns with brass fittings, the case below with banded and beaded door flanked by matching columns, the entirety set on small turned legs with shaped skirt, 90 1/2" tall, 18 1/2" x 10 1/2" at base, very good, working condition, minor veneer repairs.
CHIPPENDALE TALL CHEST - New England Colonial Chippendale Tall Chest in the original dry finish and with original brasses (one backplate missing), in walnut with chestnut secondary, having three over two over five graduated drawers, the top center drawer with keyhole escutcheon only, exposed dovetail joinery on fascia between, simple cove molded flat top and shaped molded bracket base, reeded quarter column stiles, 67 1/2" x 41" x 23", untouched, cracks in cornice, scuffs.
MASSACHUSETTS CHEST OF DRAWERS - Massachusetts Period Chippendale Mahogany Block Front Chest, probably Charlestown, circa 1770-1785, with original molded edge overhanging top, four conforming shape drawers, retaining original brass Chippendale willow hardware, conforming shape molded base, set on ogee carved bracket feet, 32 3/4" tall, 36" x 22 1/2" top, 32" case, replaced drawer bottoms, hardware and one rear brace, repairs to feet.
CHIPPENDALE GATELEG TABLE - Solid Mahogany Chippendale Gate Leg Drop Leaf Table attributed to Goddard and Townsend of Newport, Rhode Island, of typical design proportion and construction, having ribboned legs and shaped skirt, 27 3/4" tall, 54 3/4" x 16 3/4" with leaves down, 16 1/2" leaves, good condition, repair at knuckle on one leaf.
ENGLISH PARTNERS DESK - Large Chippendale Style Partners Desk in mahogany with leather top, molded edges, relief applied set of three drawers on each side, acanthus corbel dividers, molded panel cabinets with trellis applied columns, molded plinths, concealing three drawers on one side, open one shelf compartment on the other, 31" tall, 51" x 71", good condition, some scuffs and scratches.
SECRETARY - Second Half 18th c. Fine Small George III Chippendale Mahogany Two-part Secretary with arched cornice-molded top having three brass finials and astragal glazed doors below with fitted shelf interior. The base with a top drawer and fold down writing surface with well appointed interior over three long graduated drawers, all drawers retain original brass hardware, molded base resting on original carved ogee feet, 83" tall, 34 1/4" x 20 1/4", good condition.
GAMING TABLE - Chippendale Period Mahogany Gaming Table, second half 18th c., having square top with needle and petit point covering depicting card sets, with birdcage support set on ring and urn turned standard, three arch carved legs having leaf carvings on knees, ending in bold carved ball and claw feet, 28" tall, 34 1/4" square, very good condition.
SETTEE - Late 19th or Early 20th c. Chippendale Mahogany Settee with a square back and nicely shaped arms, padded over upholstered seat, cabriole front legs with shell carved knees, ending in bold carved ball and claw feet, upholstered in a brown crewel fabric. Together with an English manufactured matching armchair, 38 1/2" tall, 70 1/2" x 27", good condition, upholstery shows some wear.
DISH CABINET - Chinese Chippendale Mahogany Two-Part Cabinet, the upper portion having a dentil molded cornice top over two astragal glazed doors with shelf interior, the base having three small fret carved drawers over an open shelf with gadrooned carved molded top and single long fret carved drawer beneath, flanked by pierced and draped fret carved brackets, concave shelf beneath, set on fret carved Chippendale legs, 81 1/2" tall overall, 41 1/2" x 18 1/2", good condition.
DRESSER - Period Gent`s Country Chippendale Dresser in mahogany with pine sides, having molded top, four graduated molded edge drawers, replaced batwing pulls and escutcheons (one odd bail), shaped bracket foot, exposed dovetail carcase, 31" tall, 38" x 21 3/4", scuffs and scratches, sun faded finish.
ENGLISH LADIES DESK - Late 19th c Chippendale Style Mahogany Kneehole Desk in diminutive scale, having inlaid rose compass at center of the molded overhanging top with relieved edge, shallow full width drawer over three drawer pedestals, all with beaded edge and brass batwing pulls, recessed cabinet door in kneehole has matching inlaid compass, lock and key, shallow bracket door set above, on molded bracket foot, 32" tall, 32" x 19 1/2", very good condition.
SLANT FRONT DESK - English Chippendale Period Slant Front Desk in figured mahogany, having an interior fitted with center cabinet flanked by column form hidden compartments, wide drawer with two smaller drawers and two openings below on each side, four graduated beaded edge drawers in cabinet, molded bracket foot, slant front and drawer faces highly figured, 42" tall, 38 1/2" x 20 1/2", replaced green felt writing surface, cupped slant front, shrinkage cracks to case, filled area on top.
CHIPPENDALE OTTOMAN - Late 19th c Chippendale Style Mahogany Ottoman or Stool with rectangular padded and upholstered needlepoint seat, gadrooned carved apron, set on four boldly shaped and carved cabriole legs with acanthus leaf carved knees, ending in large ball and claw feet, 20" tall, 22" x 16 1/2" at knees, fine condition.
TIP-TOP TEA TABLE - Fine Massachusetts Chippendale Tip-Top Tea Table, first quarter 18th c., having round molded edge top with flame crotch grained wheel segmented veneer, set on ring and leaf carved urn pedestal having three arched legs with leaf and nut carved knees ending in elongated carved paw feet, 28 3/4" tall, 46 1/2" when tipped, 31 1/2" diam, fine condition.
