A magnificent 18th Century carved giltwood Overmantel Mirror, in the Chippendale taste, composed of leafy scrolls, shell work, ruined masonry pillars, rocks, and icicles, and with four candle and figure holders either side, the cresting surmounted with large exotic bird, and with two further carved exotic birds facing each other either side, on two large scroll supports, approx. 198cms x 188cms (6'6" high x 6'2" wide). (1) Provenance: Purchased Carton House Sale, 1943.
An early George III blind fret carved mahogany rectangular card table:, in the Chinese Chippendale taste, the baize lined hinged top with a moulded edge and rounded corners, having a fluted frieze, on square chamfered legs with Gothic arch ornament, headed with pierced fret spandrels, 91.5cm (3ft) wide.
A George III mahogany sideboard table:, of arc outline with a plain top, the fluted frieze with a central panel decorated with ribbon tied pendant husks centred by a paterae roundel, on square fluted tapered legs terminating in spade feet, 10ft 4in (315cm) across, maximum, 3ft (91.5cm) high. *Provenance Rockbeare Manor, Exeter, Devon. *The pair of George III mahogany pedestal urns attributed to Thomas Chippendale and which previously flanked this table were sold in these rooms on 24th April 2013. A somewhat similar serving table designed by Robert Adam is illustrated in 18th Century English Furniture, The Norman Adams Tradition p255. The provenance being Woolverstone Hall, Suffolk, the Seat of the Berners family.
