REVERSE GLASS PAINTING OF A LADY HOLDING A PUPPY QING DYNASTY, late 19th century delicately painted with a portrait of a young lady holding a Pekingese puppy, wearing a blue-ground day robe with embroidered sleeve bands, the cap adorned with two flowers 45x60cm (sight) A Private Scottish Collection The following 22 lots were collected by a Scottish businessman whilst working in Hong Kong in the 1950s and 60s. A number of these pieces may have been gifts from prominent families or heads of business. The collection of reverse paintings, in original hardwood or lacquered frames, show an interesting variety of subjects, some being European in taste, rather than purely Asian. The large painting of a young woman dressed as a shepherdess was reframed in a Chippendale pattern frame whilst in Hong Kong to match the interior decoration when the family moved back to their Scottish home.

A mid-19th century carved giltwood and gesso wall mirror, in the Chinese Chippendale taste, the frame surmounted by an eagle with outspread wings, with pilasters 'c' and 's' scrolls, applied with floral swag, foliage and rocaille ornament, flanked to the side with foliage branches and with urns of flowers above, the Pim Unicorn to the centre CONDITION REPORT: Con Rep: Approximate dimensions 190 x 217 cm. This lot was previously believed to be George II, however in our opinion this piece is circa 1860. We recommend viewing.
