A set of eight Chippendale style mahogany dining chairs, each with yoke shaped top rail, pierced splat back, drop in seat upholstered in blue and beige patterned material and raised on cabriole legs terminating in claw and ball feet. CONDITION REPORT: These chairs have no great age. The upholstered seat pads have the post 1988 Fire Safety Regulation labels, nevertheless these are in first class condition with no loose joints or any repairs. Other than very minor scratches and marks they are in first class condition and this includes the upholstery.
A set of fourteen Edwardian mahogany Chippendale style dining chairs, two arm and twelve single, two bearing plaques "Hewetson, Milner & Thexston Ltd., Tottenham Court Road" (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: All fourteen chairs are structurally very sound. There are no loose joints and no breaks or repairs to any of the legs or stiles. All of the splat backs appear to be in good condition also and there are none of the usual breaks where the cresting rail joins the side rails or tops of the splats. One chair does have a fracture across the centre of the top rail and there is a small timber loss at this point. This should be visible on our image. This is the only damaged chair. All seats are in reasonably good condition with no significant sagging or any major damage to the covering. All chairs have numerous small scuffs and marks (some greater than others) particularly around the front legs, the front seat rails and the bottom of the rear legs. All of these marks are fairly minor and a clean and wax would probably rectify.
A set of six George III country oak Chippendale style splat back dining chairs, with solid seats and tapered legs of square section. CONDITION REPORT: Five of the six chairs are structurally extremely sound with no loose joints or movement at the back. The sixth chair has very minor movement at the rear joints and on one of the stretchers. All chairs are a similar colour. Two of the chairs have a shrinkage crack between the two panels that make up the seat surface. There is no movement here. One of the two referred to also has an old stress fracture left to right across the seat. Again there is no movement here. The final chair has a stress fracture across the seat surface. There is slight movement at this point. Two of the chairs have very small losses to the bottom corner of one side of the splat back. In our opinion all issues are minor.
