A PAIR OF EARLY GEORGE III MAHOGANY HALL CHAIRS in the manner of Thomas Chippendale, each with an intricately carved and pierced back centred by an escutcheon-shaped cartouche painted with the crest of a man in the guise of a Roman emperor, within a foliate mantling, with solid serpentine seats on square chamfered legs joined by square stretchers, 21.25" wide (2)
A SET OF EIGHT GEORGE III MAHOGANY DINING CHAIRS, in the manner of Thomas Chippendale, with serpentine cresting rails carved with oval and circular paterae hung with bell flowers over three horizontal bars carved with interlocking foliate scrolls, on square-moulded front legs carved with circular foliate paterae united by squared stretchers and terminating in block feet. Comprising a pair of elbow chairs upholstered in contemporary gross and petit point needlework with musicians and figures carrying a cat in a mannequin and six single chairs, (8) The distinctive carving on the toprails centred on oval paterae is comparable to chairs supplied by Thomas Chippendale to Brocket Hall circa 1773 and Goldsborough Hall circa 1772.
A PAIR OF LATE GEORGE II MAHOGANY SIDE CHAIRS, circa 1755, in the manner of William Vile, with rectangular padded backs and seats, on panelled and chamfered front legs incised with diaper work and carved with flowers and acanthus foliage, with pierced "Chinese" corner brackets and terminating in guttae feet, 23.5" wide (2) These chairs may be compared to the celebrated suite of furniture supplied to St Giles House, Wimborne St Giles, Dorset for the Earl of Shaftesbury. This was originally attributed to Thomas Chippendale, but is now generally accepted as the work of William Vile or the so-called "St. Martins Lane Syndicate" Provenance: According to old references made for Captain Townsend MP, for Raynham Hall, Norfolk. Literature: "Chippendale Furniture", by Anthony Coleridge, published London 1968, plate 203, page 194.
A PAIR OF EARLY GEORGE III MAHOGANY TORCHERES in the manner of Thomas Chippendale, each with an octagonal top with a pierced fretwork gallery, on a turned and fluted shaft with an elongated baluster lower section incorporating a spirally-fluted urn, on tripod bases with elongated pad feet, 10" wide x 48.75" high Provenance: Originally from the collection at Herriard Park, Hampshire, the home of the Jervoise family. These torcheres, with their fine quality timber and purity of execution, may be compared to similar torcheres supplied to Paxton House by Thomas Chippendale in 1774

AN IMPORTANT EARLY GEORGE III MAHOGANY SERPENTINE COMMODE in the manner of Thomas Chippendale, with four graduated drawers fitted with gilt-bronze handles with lion's mask back plates, the uppermost drawer with a fitted interior including a writing slope, numerous covered compartments and drawers, the canted angles carved with scale-work, corbels hung with husks, acanthus foliage, oval paterae with beaded borders and ribbon-tied bows suspended with pendant bell-flowers, on shaped bracket feet, 43.25" wide
