A console piano by Pape, Paris, 1840 The burr elm case with a fretwork gallery over the wrestpins. A burr elm cross-banded panel under the keyboard flanked by a pair of scrolling X-frame supports. The rosewood inlaid and satinwood cross-banded nameboard bearing a central inscription: Pape, Paris & Londres, and flanked each side with inscriptions detailing 1st prizes won in 1838. There are three music rests above the nameboard, the central one inscribed: PAPE facture de Pianos du ROI. PIANO CONSOLE BREVET D'INVENTION. The right music rest inscribed: EN RAPPEL DE LA MEDAILLE D'OR. The six and a half octave keyboard CC-f4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. Two chased brass pedals operating keyboard shift and dampers. Serial number 4632 Width 138cm, depth 53cm, case height 100cm.
