A Georgian mahogany console table, the rectangular top with moulded edge and re-entrant corners supported by a recessed frieze and raised on shell carved cabriole legs terminating in claw and ball feet. Width 119 cm, depth 54 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The table is in generally very good condition. The top is in good order as is the moulded edge. The frieze has had a repair to the top left hand corner which should be visible on our images. The moulded edge beneath the frieze has stress fractures but no significantly loose pieces of moulding. All legs are tight at the joints. The front right hand leg has a stress mark through the ball of the foot. There is a further stress mark running from the top of the knee down the back inside edge of the leg. The left hand rear leg has stress fractures to the inside edge of the leg running from the knee right down the back of the leg to the rear claw and another one parallel to this but not quite as long. There is no movement. The rear right hand leg has scratches and scuffs to the bottom of the leg and around the foot area. There are replacement corner blocks to the tops of the legs. The table has been through a workshop in fairly recent times and has also had a sympathetic polish. In our opinion this piece will originally have had a marble top. The current mahogany top is clearly made from period timber but as stated this will probably originally have had a marble. Table height 78 cm.
