Nous connaissons quelques études de Picasso existantes du personnage du Manager français. Ce dessin relativement abouti illustre de manière détaillée les recherches graphiques développées par Picasso pour la création visuelle de ce personnage. Les costumes réalisés d’après cette étude sont relativement similaires. Parade est un ballet produit par Serge Diaghilev en 1917 pour la célèbre compagnie des « Ballets russes ». Les meilleurs artistes de l’époque participent à cette création: Jean Cocteau écrit le livret, Erik Satie compose la musique et Pablo Picasso crée les costumes et les décors. Le ballet connaît un franc succès, les représentations se succèdent en Europe et aux États-Unis jusqu’à la mort de Diaghilev en 1929.
