A small George II rectangular inkstand, on four bracket feet, with a central baluster handle and pen depression, fitted with a cylindrical inkwell and sander and central taperstick, maker’s mark, London 1728, 5 3/8in (13.6cm), 7oz. Mrs How notes that although there is no maker’s mark on this piece, there is an identical inkstand of 1727, in a private collection with the unregistered maker’s mark IBA in conjunction with full London hallmarks, and a much larger example of the same form in the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, USA
An early George II treasury inkstand, on four large scroll feet, the two hinged covers engraved with the arms of Middleton, impaling Townsend for George, third viscount Middleton, fitted on one side with a detachable inkpot and sander and two compartments, maker Sebastian and James Crespell, London 1764, 11 7/8in (30.2cm), 93.5oz.
A travelling writing set French, circa 1860 : miniature leather travelling trunk with brass-bound decoration set with cabouchon stones, the lift-up top opening to reveal a fitted interior for penholder, penknife, letter opener, ruler, seal, glass ink bottle and sander, leather matchbox, and sealing wax, 5 1/4" (13.5cm) wide, ivory collar split on ink bottle, otherwise excellent. A rare and attractive piece.

BRASS STANDISH. Found in Connecticut. Three-piece desk set with sander, ink (no insert) and a container with a candle socket on the lid. Four open cast feet on a scalloped base. Some soldered repairs, the ink has a short split and due to a small dent is not removable from the base. 9 3/4l. 5h.
A George III painted salon suite, circa 1790, comprising settee and six open armchairs, each in the Sheraton style, with shaped rectangular backs and slatted splat centred by a tablet below swags, with split can seats, painted throughout in the neoclassical manner. (The chairs were repainted in 1975 by J. Sander of Sandhurst). Settee Provenance: From 1868 the suite has belonged to the Royds family of Brizes Park, Kelvedon Hatch, Essex. The image with the suite was taken in the hallway of the house in 1949.
