With printer’s leaflet tipped in at front ... ‘During the progress of printing much additional matter ‘turned up’, which the author did not like to withhold, the volume has therefore been increased to more than twice the thickness, and contains at least three times the quantity of matter originally intended. Considerable delay in the issue of this book has been caused by the extreme tardiness of the lithographic artist to whom the execution of the portraits was entrusted... ‘. (1)
Scrapbooks.- Sara (Henry) one formed by Henry Sara, with index by Richard Thorpe, containing seven leaflets issued by the National Laboratory of Psychical Research, five Magic Circle Programmes, 1930-1934, eight for Maskelyne`s Mysteries, [1923?]-1930; one for Dr. and Miss Tree the Amazing Telepathists, signed by Leo Tree; an illustrated souvenir for The Great Carmo Circus-Menagerie & Horse Show; and inscribed illustration of the Zancigs, 1907; an autograph letter from Chris Van Bern regarding the exposure of "Mrs. H", a typed copy of a letter by Conan Doyle relating to an article by Sara about the Zancigs, with the article itself, many articles about spiritualism and Houdini, instructions by Dunninger, and other entries, 1926-1930, original cloth; the other from Richard Thorpe`s collection, with Sidney OIdridge`s leaflet regarding the expulsion of Devant from the Magic Circle, 1936, a photograph of Oswald Rae, Bill Stickland, George Davenport, Will Blyth, Ellis Stanyon, John Ramsey and others at the I.B.M. convetion, 1932, and various cuttings, 1930-1931, original half roan, folio ***A copy of Richard Thorpe`s All about a Magic Scrapbook, inscribed by the author, is included in the lot. The Sara scrapbook is described in the book. .
A fine example of a Meccano No.9 Fire Escape set. Produced in the early 1960’s. This virtually unused comprehensive set is contained in its correct period two tier wooden red paper covered box with yellow sectioned interior containing the correct red and green metal plates, (various shapes and sizes) to build this special model. Complete with nuts and bolts tins 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3. Plus cogs, wheels, rubber tyres, chains, thin green cord, spanners, handles and 4 Meccano instruction catalogues including the Special Model Leaflet 9.1 for the Fire Escape. Box is a very nice example showing very little wear, only minor tearing is apparent to the edges of the inner tray paper covering. The outer lid is in very good order but has split edges to two sides. The contents are in GC-VGC but a few pieces do have some light/moderate rusting.

A 1960’s Dinky Toys metal box lit counter top display cabinet. A yellow aluminium perspex-fronted display cabinet measuring c 13" x 10" x 5" with sliding rear back-plate, cream on inside. Plastic cream-coloured ridged base - “New Models Every Month” in black letters on yellow background - keeps models in place. There is a mains-powered electric light fitting at the top. Complete with instruction leaflet. GC, needs cleaning.
