Roman Bronze Military Fittings Group1st-3rd century AD. A mixed group comprising: two openwork buckles, each with scrolled loop and bar to the rear edge; a phallic mount; a belt mount with volute scroll to each end; a key with coiled loop; a square-section bell with ring-and-dot detail to each face, tiered shoulder; a lower guard from a dagger with pelletted bands to the lower edge on each face. A narrow triangular-section blade with tapering wooden grip; the upper guard discoid with flared profile and ropework detailing, the lower guard similar with the portion above the broad face of the blade turned down and formed into a scallop plaque; the blade hand-forged with longitudinal grain.
