Early 1st millennium BC. A bronze dagger of Type Loucé comprising a lentoid-section triangular blade with incised convergent lines to each face of the blade, hexagonal-section hollow hilt with curved pommel and arched guard attached by two rivets, hole to each face and angled slot to one; mounted on a custom-made stand. Cf. Gallay, G. Die kupfer- und altbronzezeitlichen Dolche und Stabdolcher in Frankreich, Prähistorische Bronzefunde Abteilung VI, Band 5, Munich, 1981, table 21 for type. 147 grams, 21cm including stand (8 1/4"). An iron pugio dagger blade with waisted two-edged blade with fullers, and narrow pointed tip, broad shoulder and tapering tang; concentric indentations to both faces; mounted on a custom-made stand. See Bishop, M.C. & Coulston, J.C.N. Roman Military Equipment From the Punic Wars to the Fall of Rome, London, 1993. 1.8 kg, 47cm including stand (18 1/2"). From the family collection of a London gentleman; formed in the late 1940s-1950s; thence by descent. Very fine condition.
2nd century BC-1st century AD. A carved limestone statue of a figure with segmented cap, deep shoulders, braided hair to the reverse, low-relief angled arms holding a sword(?) and dagger(?); gusset to the waist, rectangular panel to the reverse. 5.6 kg, 27.5cm (10 3/4"). Property of a English gentleman; formerly the property of a Munich collector; previously in a German collection formed in the 1980s, supplied with geologic report No. TL004946, by geologic consultant Dr R. L. Bonewitz. Fine condition. Rare.

A bronze dagger comprising a triangular blade with midrib, separate hilt with crescent lower guard, ribbed grip, cotton-reel pommel; scabbard with lateral loops for suspension, slot to the reverse, dentilled forward edge to the mouth, disc finial. 599 grams, 35.5cm (14"). From an important London W1 collection; previously acquired before 1970. [2] Fine condition.

λ An 18th Century French dagger, hollow triangular-section blade 10 in., traces of etching including script and fleurs de lys; steel guard with drooping quillons terminating in pierced diamond forms and with a side ring, ivory grip; resembles a fencing dagger, possibly a composite with later hilt components.
A FIRST PATTERN F-S WILKINSON COMMANDO KNIFE OR DAGGER OF No.9 COMMANDO AND ST NAZAIRE INTEREST, 16cm flattened diamond section blade etched to the ricasso with the F-S and Wilkinson motifs, regulation hilt with recurved guard, the pommel stamped 30946 to one side and 412 to the other, chequered grip, contained in its leather scabbard. 30946 is the Field Force Unit Number for No. 9 Commando. Of particular note, amongst other landings, No.9 Commando formed part of the demolition teams that were involved in the St Nazaire raid. Belt frog repaired.
