Lot 176

An unusual composite Vampire Slaying Kit, likely a marriage of several 19th century parts, housed in fitted Gothic style Coromandel wood box. To include: a small pocket percussion pistol with walnut chequered grip, a percussion cap tin (minus caps), an Indo-Persian Mughal dagger with niello style decoration and Damascus blade, a painted brass crucifix with date of A.D. 1863 to the reverse, a small copper powder flask, a string of rosary beads, a wooden mallet, and 3 moulded glass bottles. The box is of Coromandel wood, with applied Gothic quatrefoil brass strapping and bone inlay. The interior is fitted to snuggly house the contents, and is lined with burgundy felt. Approximately 22.8cm x 15.3cm x 10.6cm. Condition: generally good to most items within the kit. The box has a small fracture to the wood on the lid, and has one small brass stud missing from the strapping. The pocket pistol is cosmetically good, but can only be set to half cock. The dagger has some wear to the niello finish from storage, but is otherwise good. All other elements appear to be in good order. Notes: the box is complete with its original key.

Mr El-Ejel was a Syrian National who, having originally been a freedom fighter in Syria achieved high status with the independence of the country, becoming Consul for Syria in Bombay before the Embassy was established in New Delhi Served in other countries and returned to Bombay as Consul General, awarded various orders of merit across the Middle East, having a singular devotion 'To Work for the Consolidation of Close Relations between India and the Arab World'. Married a Welsh Lady from Carmarthenshire. (B.P. 21% + VAT)

German WWII period Army Officer's dress dagger with orange moulded grip (lacking wire), oak leaf pommel and band above scrolled eagle swastika cross bar, the double edged tapering blade marked 'Eickhorn, Solingen' in a metal scabbard with oak leaf bands and having bullion suspension loop with acorn. Two contemporary replica ' Blackfriars Daggers '. Solid brass dome pommel hilt, polished bone grip and downward facing quillons. Steel tapering blades housed in leather scabbards with belt loop and brass fittings.This Blackfriars Dagger is inspired by a sword that was found in the mudbanks of the River Thames near Bull Wharf, Blackfriars. The sword is dated to around 1340-50 and is a typical knight's sword of the period. It is now held in the Royal Armouries collection.
