FREEDMAN (Barnett): A rare collection of nine proof sets of various works illustrated by Barnett Freedman, each with presentation inscriptions from Freedman to various associates in printing and commerce to include: boxed set of rough proofs for 'War & Peace', inscribed 'to Jack & Olivia Beddington' dated 1938; four further volumes inscribed to the same recipients, 'for Lavengro', 'Jane Eyre', 'Oliver Twist' and 'Shakespeare's Henry IV, Part I'; Jack Beddington was Assistant General Manager & Director of Publicity for Shell-Mex and BP during the 1930s; together with two proof sets for Freedman's 'Anna Karenina', one inscribed 'to Harry Yoxall', Chairman of Conde Naste Publications in the 1930s and the other 'to Harry Carter', Typographer for Curwen Press and Nonesuch Press during the same period; together with a volume of proof plates for 'Wuthering Heights' inscribed 'to Mary from Barnett, 1944' and a group of eight lithographs from his edition of 'Oliver Twist', one inscribed to lower margin 'to Iris Eyles', dated 1943.
