Upper Devonian Period, 385-359 million years BP. A polished free standing Sporadoceras sp. goniatite (primitive ammonite"). 1 kg, 14cm (5 1/2"). From an old Bristol paleontological collection; acquired 1950s-1960s; from the Atlas Mountains, Morocco. The primitive ammonite has been polished through the shell to reveal the calcite preserved inside and show the dividing gas chambers known as suture patterns where the chambers meet the surface giving a zig-zag pattern. [No Reserve] Very fine condition.
Albian Cretaceous Period, 113-100 million years BP. A large A-grade cut and polished pair of Cleoniceras sp. ammonite displaying the distinctive pattern of the chambers; with card tray. 520 grams total, 14cm (5 1/2"). From the collection of the palaeontologist R Gledhill; collected between 1930 and 1960; from Madgascar. [2, No Reserve] Fine condition.
Palaeozoic Period, 350 million years BP. A large and tall free standing Orthoceras sp. fossil display column showing the fossil structures. 5.49 kg, 47cm (18 1/2"). Property of a Lincolnshire gentleman; formerly in an old Lincoln collection; from the Atlas mountains, Morocco. These fossils are among the oldest cephalopods known. [No Reserve] Fine condition.
Early Eocene Period, 50 million years BP. A group of fifty Squalicorax sp. (crow shark) teeth; all with good enamel and roots. 128 grams total, 22-28mm (1"). Property of a Lincolnshire gentleman; formerly in an old Lincoln collection; from Khouribga, Morocco. [50, No Reserve] Fine condition.
Pleistocene Period, 40000-15000 BP. A section of antler from Megaloceros giganteus, sometimes called the Irish elk, showing the internal structure together with the surface. 218 grams, 15.5cm (6"). From an important London collection, acquired in the 1990s; from the North Sea, UK. [No Reserve] Fine condition.
Devensian Period, 110,000-12,000 years BP. A group of oblate beads made from mammoth bone. 101 grams, 58cm (22 3/4"). Private collection, North London; acquired in the early 1990s. The mammoth is an extinct species of elephant that lived across much of the northern hemisphere from five million years ago until four thousand five hundred years ago. The discovery of their remains proved popular curios in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and jewellery was made from their bones and ivory. [No Reserve] Fine condition.
40-50 million years BP. A collection of eleven irregular pieces of Baltic amber, many with insect and other inclusions; one carved into the figure of a crouching dog, one with white metal mount; in a card presentation box. 142 grams total, amber: 23-49mm (1 - 2"). Property of a Welsh fossil collector; acquired on the UK art market [11, No Reserve] Fine condition.
Oligocene Period, 45 million years BP. A group of five pieces of polished clear Baltic amber, all containing flies or other insects together with other inclusions. 2.00 grams, 9.70-18.30mm (1/4 - 3/4"). Early Eocene Period, 50 million years BP. A group of two large Otodus obliquus shark vertebrae together with ten teeth; all the teeth with good enamel. 204 grams total, 23-52mm (1 - 2"). Property of a Lincolnshire gentleman; formerly in an old Lincoln collection; from Khouribga, Morocco. [12, No Reserve] Fine condition.
Early Pliocene Period, 5-2 million years BP. A large Carcharocles megalodon shark tooth; the specimen is well preserved and displays very good tooth enamel. 150 grams, 10cm (4"). From the collection of the palaeontologist R. Gledhill; collected between 1930 and 1960; from Georgia, USA. Fine condition.
Silurian/Devonian Period, 400 million years BP. A complete and detailed specimen of the Scyphocrinus elegans crinoid, with many fragments in the background matrix. 1.9 kg. 28cm (11"). From the collection of the palaeontologist R Gledhill; collected between 1930 and 1960; from Erfoud, Morocco. Fine condition.
Cretaceous Period, 100 million years BP. A large example of a Carcharodontosaurus saharicus, African T-Rex tooth, showing clearly visible serration to edges, with some good enamel. 55 grams, 10cm (4"). From an old Lincolnshire collection; acquired during 1980s; from the Tegana formation of the Sahara Desert, Morocco. The Carcharodontosaurus saharicus, often known as the African T-Rex, was one of the largest predators (larger than its distant North American cousin) of all time and is also related to Allosaurus and the South American Giganotosaurus. Very fine condition.
New Kingdom, 19th Dynasty, 1292-1189 BC. A polished alabaster canopic jar with tapering body, separate lid with a human face representing the son of Horus Hapi; incised rectangular panel to the belly of the jar with three columns of hieroglyphic text, placing the vessel under the protection of Nephthys and Hapi. 9.8 kg, 36cm (14"). Property of a central London gallery; formerly with Archéologie, Pierre Bergé & Associés, Paris, 26 November 2013, lot 65, sold for €31,250 (inc. bp); previously in a private Israeli collection formed in the 1960s.
