An incredible rare mid-20th century 1950's ' BP ' Avery Hardoll petrol pump. Lovingly and sympathetically restored to immaculate condition - includes an original rare ' BP ' glass globe to top. Rectangular form, in green BP livery, with glass viewing panel in chrome frame above painted notation. Black hose with original period nozzle. Working light to top, fully PAT tested. An incredible and impressive display piece. Measures approx: 220cm tall x 55cm wideProvenance: originally from the Workman Garages in Coronation Avenue, Bath. This pump, and the previous lot (lot 450) stood together in the garage from 1952 until our vendor purchased them in 2009. They were ordered from Avery Hardoll together, and have sequential serial numbers to the side. Both pumps are 100% complete, with all the inner workings present. Keys also present. The vendor spent a huge amount of time researching the correct signage and had them professionally signwritten in their correct font, and even checking the correct price of petrol for that area in 1952. They should both be considered as good as when they left the factory.

Los 657

Eocene Period, 58-36 million years BP. A fossil mud lobster (crayfish) Thalassina sp., in matrix. 87 grams, 14cm (5 1/2"). From an old Bristol paleontological collection; acquired 1950s-1960s; from Australia. Fine condition. Rare.

Los 654

Eocene Period, 56-33 million years BP. A very large fossil fish Diplomystus sp. on a rectangular matrix. 3.4 kg, 53cm (21"). From an old Lincolnshire collection 1980s; from the Green River Formation, Lincoln County, Wyoming, USA. In southwest Wyoming (and parts of Colorado and Utah) in the Green River Formation are found some of the world's most outstanding specimens of fossil fish. The Green River system was composed of three lakes: Lake Ulinta, Lake Gosiute and Fossil Lake. These Eocene Lakes lay in a series of intermountain basins formed by geological events that uplifted the Rocky Mountains during the early Tertiary time. The climate was much different from the desert-like climate of this area today. Both the fauna (crocodiles, alligators, boa constrictors and some subtropical fish families) and the flora (such as large palm trees) indicate a climate much like that found along the Gulf Coast today. Large amounts of ash found in the sediments indicate that volcanoes were particularly active at this time. Fine condition, repaired.

Los 653

Triassic Period, 250-200 million years BP. A complete fossil of Keichousaurus hui on a rectangular matrix. 1.3 kg, 31cm (12"). From an old Bristol paleontological collection; acquired 1950s-1960s; from Xingyi, Guizhou, China. Keichousaurus was a late-Triassic marine reptile, and a member of the Pleurosaur family, which went extinct 250 million years ago during the Triassic-Jurassic extinction event. They were specialised fish eaters, and were highly unusual amongst marine reptiles in that they gave birth to live young rather than laying eggs. Fine condition, repaired.

Los 655

Upper Jurassic, 140 million years BP. A fossil dragonfly Isophlebia aspasia on a matrix. 380 grams, 12.5cm (5"). From an old Lincolnshire collection 1980s; from the Solnhofen Limestone, Germany. The Solnhofen limestones is a famous Lagerstätte in Germany that offers amazing preservation of Upper Jurassic fossils. It is where one of the most famous fossils of all time, archaeopteryx was found. Fine condition. Rare.

Los 658

Lower Cretaceous Period, 100 million years BP. A large, cut and polished Speetoniceras versicolor ammonite fossil displaying the internal chamber constructions. 7.6 kg total, 27cm (10 3/4"). From a private UK collection, acquired on the London art market 1990-2000; from the Volga River, Russia. Speetoniceras is a genus of ammonites indicating those with a hard textured plate-spiral. Ammonites were cephalopod molluscs and considered as active predators or plankton eating animals. [2] Very fine condition.

Los 659

Pliocene Epoch, 3 million years BP. A very large woolly mammoth tooth Mammuthus primigenius, displaying some good root and chewing surface. 5.3 kg, 37cm (14 1/2"). From the collection of the palaeontologist R Gledhill; formed between 1930 and 1960; found at the bank of the Lena River near of the city Yakutsk (Yakutia, North Siberia), Russia. Fine condition.

Los 650

Lower Cretaceous Period, 146-100 million years BP. A large fossil skull of a Mosasaur sp. dinosaur; presenting as viewed from above, lacking the base of the skull and orbits, the skull flattened during the fossilisation process to expose the teeth of both upper and lower jaws with original matrix; plus plaster backing and make up to edges to support. 61 kg, 78 x 55cm (30 3/4 x 21 1/2"). Property of a UK collector; acquired on the UK auction market; authenticity confirmed by two paleontologists from the Natural History Museum, at Oxford University; from the phosphate beds of Morocco. Mosasaurs were giant, carnivorous marine reptiles, often growing to over 20 metres long; one of the largest and most effective predators of their age. Fine condition. A large display piece.
