Three cushions with applied finely stitched silk embroidered fragments, depicting flowers in double chain stitch with raised silver work on a cream fine wool background with a woven gilt and metal thread border. Sizes 20 x 27 cm, 23 x 26 cm and 24 x 28 cm, together with another tassel-edged cream silk cushion with two types of embroidered fragments appliqued onto red wool background 18th century and later.

A rare cushion commemorating the 1927 Trans-Atlantic flight undertaken by Charles Nungesser and Francois Coli, stitched in wool with bi-plane with question mark to the fuselage beneath and communication tower and profile images of the two pilots above the Eifel Tower and Statue of Liberty, filled with feathers and silk lining, 65cm long Charles Eugene Jules Marie Nungesser, MC (1892-1927), was a French ace pilot and adventurer. He is best known for rivalling Charles Lindbergh. He was a renowned ace in France during WWI, ranking third highest in the country with 43 air combat victories. After the war Nungesser disappeared mysteriously on an attempt to make the first nonstop transatlantic flight from Paris to New York. Nungesser took set off from Paris on 8 May 1927 in L'Oiseau (White Bird) with his old wartime comrade Francois Coli. The aircraft was sighted over Ireland and then never seen again. (1)

Hallmarked for Chester 1908 makers Synyer & Beddoes (Harry Synyer & Charles Joseph Beddoes) Weighs 129 grams. Measures 5 cm high, 9.5 cm wide and 6 cm deep.
