A silver ring with D-section hoop, expanding to fluted shoulders supporting a cushion-shaped bezel, raised rectangular panel with rounded edges bearing a scene composed of a skeleton sitting, resting its elbows on its knees, one arm reaching upwards to support the skull, flower to the right, 'NOSCE TE IPSUM' ('Know thyself') Latin motto to the left; circular hole to reverse of bezel revealing a hollow interior, likely for enclosing a memento of the deceased. Cf. Evans, J., English Posies and Posy Rings, OUP, 1931, p.84, for 'Nosse Te Ipsum'. 8.29 grams, 28.13mm overall, 20.59mm internal diameter (approximate size British V, USA 10 1/2, Europe 23.77, Japan 22) (1"). Ex private collection of a Sussex lady since the mid 1960s. 'Know thyself' originates as an ancient Greek aphorism- a Delphic maxim- one of three such maxims inscribed in the forecourt of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, and an idea explored over the centuries by great philosophers such as Socrates and Plato. Very fine condition. A large, wearable size.
A Victorian mahogany bookcase, with flared moulded cornice fitted three shelves enclosed by a pair of arched glazed doors, the base fitted single cushion moulded frieze drawer and with pigeonholes and cupboard under enclosed by a pair of arched panelled doors. 235 cm high, 115 cm wide, 50 cm deep (part of a larger bookcase). CONDITION REPORT: The cornice is missing its right side section. The bookcase is faded throughout and has marks and scratches mainly to the lower stage. The right-hand side base door has a large split to the upper portion. The base has scuffing throughout, marks and scratches. Each interior with appropriate wear.

Four old European cut diamonds, milligrain set to the bar in white faced collets, to a trace link chain with an engraved box clasp. Tested as approximately 18ct gold, 9ct gold and platinum. Centrepiece 45mm long, 4.72gThe vendor has stated that the pendant 'was made by my maternal grandfather's father, Solomon Weitzman (1859 'Krakam, Austria'), for his daughter who died prematurely, and has been in our family to date'.Condition report: Table and crown facet edge wear. Substantial abrasion to the facet and facet edges.Later underbezel to the synthetic sapphire collet. Light surface marks commensurate with its age.
An early Victorian figured mahogany chiffonier, with leaf moulded back, fitted single frieze drawer, cupboard under enclosed by pair of arched and crossbanded doors. 151 cm high, 122 cm wide, 49 cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: The raised back is angled in slightly, has some paint splashes to the carved top and some minor staining, marks and scratches. The rectangular top is in similar condition with a small dent 2 ins from the edge, minor marks and scratches again. The cushion drawer has fading with some small veneer losses. The panelled doors generally are in good condition other than fading. The columns seem to be again in good condition. The plinth base has some veneer losses to the left-hand side section with some scuffing and minor veneer flakes to the front section. The interior has age appropriate wear. The drawer contains some remnants of veneer sections and some moulding as well.
A matched set of two carver arm and four single Chippendale style kitchen dining chairs. CONDITION REPORT: These chairs are all late 18th or early 19th century in date and are a combination of elm, oak and mahogany. The chair with the shaped pierced splats and wood seat has a split running across the width of the seat together with damage to both front corners of seat. In addition the carved areas to the crest rail both appear to be chipped. The other chair with wood seat has a shrinkage split running the width of the chair and in this area there is also some woodworm damage and some chipping to both sides of the chair, one of these areas has been partially filled with a resin. The two dining chairs with drop in seats are a pair, one has cracking to the front left seat corner whilst the other is slightly faded. The armchair with rush seat and red seat cushion has an old repair to the crest rail which appears to have come off and bears patches to the reverse. There are also screw repairs to both arms. The other armchair which features a drop in seat is scuffed and worn but does not appear to have any major damage.
An Edwardian silver hat pin stand by Arthur Johnston Smith 1909, with spider, fly and cobweb top and stamped Registered 535260. Height 9.5 cm, base diameter 9 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This hatpin stand has evidence of solder repair to the joint between web and uprights, and in addition a couple of the uprights are slightly misshapen. The cloth pin cushion appears to be the original cloth and the silver covered base surrounding this area has a few small dints and is slightly misshapen to the rim. The underside of the hatpin stand is inset with simulated tortoiseshell. The hallmark and makers mark are clear and there is a registration number impressed close to this area which reads 53526.
A William IV Rosewood sewing box, the angled pin cushion top with beaded moulding, fitted single drawer and inset with Mother of Pearl Heart shaped cartouche engraved initial HH 10 cm high x 15 cm wide x 9.5 cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: This sewing box has minor wear in places together with an old crack to the right hand side. The back is slightly faded but generally this box is in order
A Victorian ormolu 6 spool reel holder the pin cushion top with leaf moulding, the holders with figural and bird finials on splayed feet 25 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: This reel holder has wear to the ormolu throughout and there is some wear to the pin cushion top. In addition the overall framework is slightly bent.
