A Bow blue and white plate, painted with Oriental river scenes on a blue powder ground, the reverse with an unusual six character mark in imitation of the Chinese, and a Derby oval fluted dish, painted in blue with geometric panels of flowers, the base with a precious object mark, c.1755-60, 27.3cm max. A Berlin two-handled chocolate cup and cover, painted with vignettes of figures and boats, a Copenhagen cup and saucer decorated with figures in landscaped gardens, a Nymphenburg plate, a Wallendorf coffee can, a German porcelain cup and saucer, a Chinese teabowl and saucer of a ship sailing the Swedish flag, and a Chinese cup painted with a bird, 18th and 19th centuries, some damages. The Chinese teabowl and saucer in this lot is believed to have been part of a service shipped by the Swedish East India Company.
A set of six Spode pearlware plates, printed with lilac flower sprays within gilt rims, an unusual Davenport creamware plate brightly painted in polychrome with two Chinese musicians, two pearlware plates and a similar shaped dish, probably Davenport, painted in sepia with farm buildings and village landscapes, two Wedgwood oval basketweave dishes and a Wedgwood creamware plate painted with a large rose, late 18th / early 19th century, minor damages, 28cm max. (13) From the collection of Anthony Ray (1926-2009), ceramic historian. The pair to the Davenport creamware plate was presented to the V&A in 1975.
Two Delft Kraak-style dishes, one decorated with an enormous lion towering over a figure in a boat (possibly a reference to William III), the other with Chinese flowers and auspicious objects, and another similar tin-glazed plate, probably German, decorated with Oriental figures and panels of fruit and flowers, 1st half 18th century, some damages, 40.4cm max. CHINESE PORCELAIN GREY CRACKLE WARE VASE QIANLONG PERIOD with flared neck above cylindrical body and twin lion-ring moulded handles, with dual `iron wire` and `golden thread` craquelure 24cm high Note: the glazed base bears Sidney L Moss label. Literature: illustrated in `Chinese Ceramic Glazes` by AL Hetherington, published by the Commonwealth Press, Inc, Los Angeles, 1948, plate XIV, and to be sold with a copy of the book.
An English Blue and White Delft Wall-Pocket, London, probably Lambeth, circa 1750, of half round double cup form, with hole for suspension pierced through the upper back plate (prior to glazing), the frontal upper register painted with a chinoiserie scene of a Manchu boy with long sleeves dancing by a fence before a huge midgie beneath overhanging crag, a stalagmite repeat pattern to the lower cup and with acorn terminal, 19cm high A similarly shaped wall-pocket (but which has a variant landscape and a stalagmite repeat upper border) is illustrated in Archer (Michael) Delftware, pg.375, i.23. The use of Chinese children at play - Wa Wa - are often seen on Chinese Kangxi blue and white porcelains, and were probably the inspiration for this design.
