A George III mahogany longcase clock, with and 8 day five pillar movement striking on a bell, with a 12 inch arched brass dial having a silvered chapter ring and subsidiary seconds dial, the silvered centre engraved and inscribed 'Conyers Dunlop, London,' above a date aperture, the arch with a Strike/Silent dial, the case with a pagoda hood and stop fluted columns to an arched trunk door with stop fluted quarter pilasters to a panelled base with bracket feet, 99in (251.5cm) h; pendulum, two weights. Jean Shepeard (British, 1904-1990) Portrait of Edward Wolfe, RA, 1929 signed lower right with initials "JS" charcoal 23 x 16cm Provenance: From the artist's family Jean Shepheard and Edward Wolfe showed their work at a group exhibition at the Redfern Gallery in August 1929 (label on the reverse refers), which is when the present drawing was executed. Fellow artists in the exhibition were Augustus John, Cedric Morris, Bernard Meninsky, Paul Nash and Ronald Ossory Dunlop.
Jean Shepeard (British, 1904-1990) Portrait of Ronald Ossory Dunlop, RA, 1933 signed lower right with initials "JS" red chalk 33 x 21cm Exhibited: Lefevre Gallery, King Street, St James's, London, Jean Shepeard Exhibition, 1933 Ronald Ossory Dunlop and Jean Shepeard were lovers and he was a guiding influence on her work in the 1930s, particularly with her one-man exhibition at Lefevre in 1933. Dunlop was an Irish author and painter who studied at Manchester School of Art. His first one man show in 1928 was at the Redfern Gallery. In 1923 he founded the Emotionist group of writers and artists of which Jean Shepeard was a founder member.

Chinese School (c.1900) Port side profile of the Douglas & Co. cargo ship S.S. Haiching steaming in calm waters off a headland with shipping beyond. 12 x 17in. (30.5 x 43cm.) Framed. Provenance: Sotheby's Olympia 18/6/03, lot 55. Built in 1898 by Dunlop & Co., Glasgow, Haiching registered 2,182 gross. In 1929 she was seized by pirates enroute to Swatow, set afire and gutted amidships, she was saved by H.M.S. Shirley who escorted her back to Hong Kong for repairs. She was torpedoed and sunk by U-168 100 miles west of Bombay on 2nd October 1943.
