Bike magazine feature motorcycle1997 Kawasaki 748cc ZX-7RRegistration no. P53 CTHFrame no. JKAZX750PPA016704Engine no. ZX750NE024749 (see text)This Kawasaki ZX-7R was bought one year ago for a feature in Bike magazine (November 2022 edition) and ridden 350 miles back from Cornwall for the story. Since then it has rarely moved because of other bikes and other projects, although it has been fitted with a set of new Dunlop Qualifier tyres. In addition, the front brake calipers have been overhauled and new brake pads fitted. The machine is expected to have passed an MoT test the week before the auction, and then ridden 100 miles from the vendor's home to the sale. Our vendor advises us that the previous owner had done some work on the bike and that it would benefit from a little more attention this winter; ideally, the shock absorber should be either overhauled or replaced and the carburettors balanced (there is a flat-spot typical of ZX-7Rs) although the machine is said to ride well in its current state, the gear change being crisp and the clutch progressive. It comes with a selection of used parts to include a CDI box, ignition coils, instruments, seat cowl, carburettors, alternator, an original exhaust end-can, and a 730-page Clymer workshop manual. The original engine (number ZX750NE013056) is included in the sale. Departures from factory specification include (believed) Akrapovic header pipes, a Black Widow end-can, stainless brake hoses, and four-piston brake calipers.Footnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding.Lot to be sold without reserve. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Its first post-war models were the ML, a 122cc Villiers-engined machine derived from a successful military design, and an autocycle. The next introduction - in 1948 - was the Comet, again Villiers-powered but this time using the 98cc 1F unit, the latter housed in a simple loop-type rigid frame fitted with single-tube girder front fork. Standard (direct lighting) and De Luxe (battery) models were offered. James' own telescopic fork, featuring rubber as the damping medium and codeveloped with Dunlop, became available on the Comet in the early 1950s. Suitable for spares only, this dismantled James is offered without documents, the condition and suitability of its components being unknown. He joined the Army on 18 December 1829, as Second Lieutenant, and some three months later was gazetted First Lieutenant to the 5th Battalion, Royal Artillery. Having been made Captain in the 7th Battalion on 23 November 1841, he became Lieutenant-Colonel on 20 June 1854, and full Colonel exactly three years later. On the latter date he had never been on half-pay, but in continuous active service; and now came his chance for distinction. When trouble arose in the Far East, Colonel Dunlop was placed in charge of the troops in China, from the breaking out of hostilities in 1856 to the end of April 1857. In January 1857, he suffered severely from an attempt made by the Chinese to poison the inhabitants of Hong Kong by mixing arsenic with the bread sold on 10 January. At the capture of Canton in December 1857, Colonel Dunlop commanded the Artillery, and was awarded a C.B. and the China medal with clasp for his services. Colonel Dunlop's next appointment was to the command of the artillery forces in Canada, as Colonel on staff with headquarters at Montreal. The date of this promotion was 31 December 1861; he had become a full Colonel on 26 October 1858, and had passed the staff college. He vacated the appointment in 1857, and retired with full pay on his promotion to Major-General on 2 February 1868. Less than three months afterwards - on the 23rd April - he received the honorary rank of Lieutenant-General. His good service pension of £90 per annum, dated 23 March 1861, had been increased to £100 per annum on 12 May 1866. General Dunlop died on 24 April 1887 at his residence ‘Sunnyside’, in the village of Holmwood, near Dorking.
