Formerly part of the celebrated Sword Collection, this powerful, 3-litre vintage touring car cruises effortlessly at 45 mph and is beautifully equipped with high-quality C.A.V. fittings - ideal for VSCC events.During the Great War, Darracq went over completely to munitions production: weapons, ammunition and even complete aeroplanes – in greatly expanded premises. The initial post-war Darracq was an updated version of Owen Clegg’s pre-war side-valve, four-cylinder, 3-litre 'Type V' to be joined by a new 24cv side-valve, 4½-litre V8 'Type A' in 1920. However, in 1919 Darracq took over English Talbot and the resulting company merged in 1920 with Sunbeam to form the Sunbeam Talbot Darracq group which quickly came under the strong influence of the personality and ideas of Sunbeam’s Breton director, Louis Coatalen. The head office and factory were at 32 Quai Général Gallieni in Suresnes, Paris. From 1920, Suresnes built cars were officially known as Talbot-Darracq up to late 1921. This delightful 1921 Talbot-Darracq V20 16hp Tourer is indeed one of those Suresnes-built cars and has a fairly comprehensive history after September 1962 when it was sold as part of the JC Sword Collection. The car's history file is packed full of interesting paperwork including a report on the sale of the Sword Collection, years of correspondence, a copy of an original French advert for the model, a sales advert for this particular car by Brooklands Byfleet from the Sixties, a Sunbeam, Talbot, Darracq Register Car History from 1983, a Lubrication Chart, starting instructions, handwritten spec, copy of an auction entry, V5Cs, a Valuation Certificate from 2014 (£35,000) and acres of restoration / maintenance invoices suggesting that in excess of £50,000 has been spent over the years. According to the Register Report, the bodywork is believed to be original although they say the paint colours are not. Currently finished in Deep Primrose over Nut Brown, the paintwork appears very good and has obviously been applied in the last few years. According to our vendor; "The car is a pleasure to drive with an easily mastered, 4-speed gearbox with changes easy to effect both up and down. The car starts readily and runs beautifully with a 45mph cruising speed quite similar to a 20hp Rolls-Royce. An original Autovac feeds fuel to the Zenith Carburettor. To the dash is a C.A.V. switch plate with ammeter and dynamo/lights control switches. The car has a recent high-quality black mohair hood fitted, easily erected or lowered by one person, Dunlop Cord beaded-edge tyres are fitted to the four corners mounted on re-spoked wooden artillery wheels and a new clutch has been fitted. Only a handful of these rare Talbots survive so you are unlikely to see another on the road." Mechanically sound with good paintwork, a new hood, ready to go and sensibly guided considering recent valuations, this splendid vintage car is ready for many more adventures. Reg. no. BF 8328Frame no. 284506Engine no. LM 759Adolphe Clement moved to Paris in 1880 where he started a very successful bicycle firm and in 1889, after seeing the New Dunlop pneumatic tyre demonstrated in London, he acquired the manufacturing rights in France and soon made his fortune. Using this money, he expanded his factory and in 1895 began manufacturing motorised Tricycles and a Quadricycle using De Dion engines and soon after began producing cars. In 1902 Clement motorcycle engines were also supplied to Charles Garrard in the UK, who initially used frames supplied by James Lansdowne Norton, to produce the Clement - Garrard Autocycle. Norton was so impressed by the quality and performance of Clement engines that he used them in his first ‘Energette’ motorcycle.Bikes of this age rarely come to the market and this lovely very rare 1902 Clement Auto-cycle has the early 143cc type B, LM, four stroke engine. It was fully restored several years ago but has not been run for some time so will require some recommissioning prior to use.Comes with - a current V5C, a pioneer certificate, and a large information folder collated during the restoration and registration of this machine.

George VI British Infantry Officers Sword Attributed to Lieutenant James Dunlop 1st Battalion Gordon Highlanders, Taken Prisoner of War on 12th June 1940 at St Valery, regulation pattern sword with the knuckle guard incorporating the cypher of George VI. Wire bound fish skin grip. Housed in its brown leather field service scabbard. Near mint condition regulation blade etched with foliage and crowned cypher. Blade 82 ½ cms, overall 102cms. The current vendor acquired this sword with the proceeding lot (basket hilt broadsword) in initialled sword bag, both were sold by the family of Dunlop. Lieutenant James Ian Renton Dunlop was born on 26th September 1918 in Oxford. He served with the 1st Battalion Gordon Higlanders when he was taken prisoner of war on 12th June 1940 at St Valery. He was held at Oflag IXA in Spangenberg Castle, Spangenberg, Hesse. His POW number was 1332. Lieutenant Dunlop is mentioned in the war diary by Captain J R P Taylor Intelligence Officer of the 1st Gordons, about the action on June 11th & 12th at St Valery, “0215 HRS - The previous attempts to contact the forward companies having failed, I asked the Colonel if I could go, and started down the track to ‘A’ Company, but by this time my foot had swollen up and I was very dot-and-carry-one, so I was called back and Jimmy Dunlop was sent. Jimmy only got about 200 yds down this track before he was halted by a German sentry! He dived into the ditch but was shot through the ankle in doing so. However, he did a very fine crawl back to Bn HQ, although he was in very great pain. This information definitely confirmed our suspicion that the enemy had infiltrated between us and the forward Coys. By the time Jimmy was back, Hutchy and I had returned from St-Valéry with the order to withdraw at once”. Later going on to say, “The Colonel then ordered ‘C’ Coy, HQ Coy and Bn HQ personnel to move back to St-Valéry. These parties were taken by Capt. F.J. Colville and Capt. Christie respectively. He also ordered Hutchy to take Jimmy Dunlop, RSM Titley and myself back in his truck. Titley and I were lame and Jimmy was a stretcher case.” PLEASE SEE AUCTION INFORMATION IN RELATION TO THE SHIPPING OF SWORDS AND BAYONETS

James Tassie, Scottish, 1735-1799, a pair of white paste reliefs of Archibald Grahame of Drumquhassle, Barrowfield and Dalmarnock (1747-1806) and his wife Jane Grahame, inscribed respectively ARCH.GRAHAME, 1795, Tassie F, and JANE GRAHAME, 1796, Tassie F, each in an oval wood frame, the portraits - 7.5cm high, the frames - 14.5cm high (2) Note: Archibald Grahame was originally a writer in Glasgow. On the failure of the firm of Matthew and John Orr, who were ruined by working coal on their estates of Camlachie and Gateside, these properties, along with Barrowfield, were sold to Robert Scot of Aikenhead, and James Dunlop of Garnkirk. The latter gentleman was also unfortunate, and the shares of the estates belonging to him passed into the hands of Mr. Grahame, who also purchased besides, from John Buchanan, M.P., son of Thomas Buchanan of Ardoch, the estate of Dalmarnock. Archibald Grahame was for many years cashier of the Thistle Bank, established in 1761. He was a member of the first Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce, and Chairman in 1790-91-98-99. James Tassie was born in Pollokshaws near Glasgow in Scotland in 1735. He began as a stonemason who turned himself into an artist and entrepreneur. He invented a glass-paste composition which he used amidst the Classical Revival to create a series of casts of antique gems, cameos and intaglios in coloured potash-lead glass. His antique gems were avidly collected by patron such as Catherine the Great of Russia. He also became famous for modelling various series of portrait busts of distinguished figures of the later 18th century, many modelled from life. Tassie established himself as the leading supplier of portrait medallions, making around five hundred of his contemporaries. Please refer to department for condition report

1964 Jaguar Mk. II (3.8 Litre) Transmission: automaticMileage:2030The Jaguar Mk. II was a medium sized saloon built from 1959 to 1967 as a successor to the 2.4 and 3.4 litre models. The Mk. II was handsome, powerful, and good handling saloon which was offered with a choice of three six-cylinder twin cam engines; 2.4 litre, 3.4 litre or 3.8 litre. After the appreciation of the Mk. I, Jaguar's successor was well received thus making a good car even better. Similar in appearance but with a bigger glass area, it boasted a wider track to improve road holding together with minor front suspension changes to reduce body roll and fitted with the new Dunlop disc brakes all-round rather than drum brakes. The 210bhp 3.4 litre engine variant proved to be the most popular, offering the best compromise between performance and economy. Naturally, the performance was excellent, and the Mk. II has enjoyed great success on the track and can still be a very competitive historic race car. Raced by all the top drivers of the day including Graham Hill, Roy Salvadori and Michael Parkes, the Mk. II scored victories throughout saloon car races in the 60's and was also raced across Europe in the Tour de France and Monte-Carlo rally. The car also gained a reputation as a capable 'getaway car' among the criminal underworld. The Mk. II had seating for five adults and in 3.8 litre specification, could outrun almost any other car on the road. This example is presented in light Quartz Gunmetal Grey with blue leather interior. This was originally a Rhodesian car which we understand was imported to the UK in 2014 and registered with the DVLA in May 2015. Its original 3.4 engine has been replaced by the more potent and powerful 3.8 litre which is mated to a Borg Warner three-speed automatic gearbox. The interior is in good condition with the burr walnut woodwork looking good and is complemented by the Moto-Lita wooden steering wheel, so evocative of this era. The car comes with an original Jaguar workshop manual, Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and various invoices. These are quintessentially British and evoke many nostalgic memories for a great deal of people, this is no exception!
1959 MG A Roadster Twin Cam Transmission: manualMileage:2157Introduced in 1958, the MGA Twin Cam was the result of a lengthy and involved development but, disappointingly, it returned one of the shortest production runs that Abingdon had ever seen. This certainly makes the car somewhat a rarity with only 2,111 cars being produced between early 1958 and early 1960. The Twin Cam utilised an engine that was never fitted to any other car and was developed from the B series unit. It was difficult to extract more than 60bhp from the standard pushrod engine so Gerald Palmer, the Cowley's plant design engineer, turned his attention to a twin cam unit, the company being keen to get back into serious competition. A special light alloy, cross-flow cylinder head carried twin overhead camshafts housed by two smart looking alloy cam covers adorned the top of the cylinder head whilst a large finned aluminium sump helped to keep the lubricating oil cool. Further design works led to a very healthy 108bhp @ 6700rpm and with a maximum torque figure of 104Ib. ft. @ 4500rpm meant that the new MGA Twin Cam was to be no slouch! Of the 2,111 examples produced, 1,801 were roadsters. There is no doubt that today, the MGA Twin Cam quite rightly has its niche in the MG history book and is a much desired classic. Purchased from Historics at our 2016 Brooklands Museum sale this stunning MGA twin cam roadster is a matching-numbers, UK home-market supplied MGA Twin Cam that still wears its original designated number plate. Manufactured on 9th September 1959, XHL 866 when purchased had just undergone an extensive body-off restoration resulting in this fabulous example. The final finish had been carried out to a very high standard in Chariot Red, its original factory colour. The interior seats are trimmed in black leather with red piping, the interior further featuring the original factory fitted steering wheel. A new hood keeps the occupants dry when required and complimenting the coachwork is the chrome work and badges that, apart from the windscreen surround, had all been re-chromed or replaced. Continental tyres adorn the wonderful and original Dunlop peg wheels (wire wheels were never an option on the MGA). Mechanically, the restoration included an engine overhaul with particular attention being paid to the cylinder head, this being built to the original specification, and the addition of a Hi-Torque starter motor aiding reliable starting. However after purchase the car had troubles with the running in period. Thus our vendor, wanting a perfect example of this true British great, commissioned Valoroso to carry out a full engine rebuild, fit a new aluminium radiator, oil cooler and filter coupled with fuel pump. While this was undertaken a new clutch and new brake pads were added. The car now stands our customer having spent in excess of £70,000, but this results in a truly lovely example. Having covered just 2,157 miles since the coachwork was carefully attended to this example correctly includes the factory fitted steel wings, all in exemplary condition. A history file includes a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate which shows that this is a matching numbers MGA Twin Cam and one of only 210 UK home-market, right hand drive cars built. Also included are invoices for the recent engine rebuild and dyno tests, coupled with photographs from the restoration and various books and manuals. The charm of this MGA Twin Cam is that it has been sympathetically restored to a condition that very much reflects how it may have appeared from the factory in 1959. With so few genuine UK home market, right hand drive MGA Twin Cams surviving today, there is no doubt that this car, built to this standard, is a much desired example of the marque.
